'Ultima Online' hacker arrested over 'house' sale
Yomiuri Shimbun
The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of illegally accessing an Internet game server to sell a virtual "house" owned by a woman to another game participant for 50,000 yen, police said Thursday.
According to the MPD, Ryusei Sakano of Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, posed as a female game player he met online while playing "Ultima Online," a popular Internet-based game.
Sakano reportedly asked the game's system administrator to provide the female player's entry password on the pretext that she had lost her password to the game.
The police said Sakano then used the female player's password to illegally access the company's U.S. computer server for the game a total of seven times over a period of three months from September.
According to the MPD, Sakano took advantage of the fact that the game's virtual gold pieces--used by players as a virtual currency--can be traded through bulletin boards. He sold a virtual house belonging to the female player valued at 25 million gold pieces for 50,000 yen, the police said.
Ah.. i remember those days at my HS. We wrote BASIC programs what would simulate a valid looking dos prompt then would begin to do an endless loop of playing annoying sounds through the pc speaker..
Of course we had a count down timer on them so we could get out of the class room and into the hall just in time to have them go off on 30+ machines... Then the teacher would have to reset each machine, great laughs for 15yr old computer geeks.
Isn't this the amount they spend on promoting N*suck during the superbowl? They will just regain the cost of the fine when I pay the $21.99 for the new Brittany cd anyways!
How about digital cable w/ VOD service or DTV and other sat services? I think those are clearly delivering more digital content to a much wider audience than the post office. Any thoughts on this?
Ok this is what I wanna see.... Every computer, PDA, cellphone, laptop, etc have fingerprint scanners. You turn them on and w/ your fingerprint you login your profile is pulled from a secure server over the net. This contains your info and profile... This is info is held in ram on the computer in a secure way and email clients, web browsers, im clients, etc.. all have plugins to use this info. Anyone see a problem with this and why it could not be made possible in the future?
Lucky for you, you live in Canada or I would have you arrested on making Anti-american (terrorist) statements!!
You are right... But the slashdot staff does not wake up until 2pm and then dont get around to reading submitted articles for several hours.
:)
Then they use their patented 1 click dup checker(which not always works) before its submitted. As you can see this usually creates delays
eh no... the strings command.
just pipe your stuff through strings. it should help a bit
