Nah, I prefer XPP. Just think about the fun you could have around the cube farm asking if your mates have the latest build of "x-pee-pee." The chances for elementary school humor are endless.

I'll tell you what we run: Protools!

Yes I know they offer TDM systems with outboard processing, but I don't have that kind of money. I record and mix with the two-channel Mbox and Protools 6.0. As soon as you start adding plug-ins the thing slows down dramatically. In short, I need the speed.

My question is, I wonder who Apple/Oracle think the target market is for the combo?

I think they're targeting the sciences and education markets where Apple already has a market presence. (Dare I say "decent market presence"?)

Ok, so why are most of the BIG guys not doing it? Because they make exceptional money....

I disagree. They're doing it because they're contractually bound to do it. At the time U2 signed their last contract (the only reference I can find to a U2 contract on the Web is 1980--I can't believe it, but I guess it's possible...), what choice did they have? None. And now they're in a 10 album deal (that's a guess, not a fact). Even when their current contract is up they won't have access to their back catalog--the record company will own it. So the idea of releasing a greatest hits won't happen b/c the record company would never allow it.

  6. Personally, I say @stake on Recommendations for Third Party Security Audits? · · Score: 1

I know a few of the folks there. They know their stuff and, most important, they know how to talk to everyone in the organization. Don't forget, if the audit turns up stuff that'll need to be fixed (and it will), that'll require spending money and convincing a manager or v.p. is a whole lot easier when the consultants speak their language.
