but the more protocols and applications there are, the less of a community there is. napster was fantastic at it's peak because *everyone* used it. p2p is not of much use if no-one else is using your protocol.
what we could really do with is a file sharing searching and transfer protocol that all applications conform to.
although this might not matter at all because the fasttrack network can exist without main servers, using some kind of 'supernode' (which to me just means automatically assigned server) software.
