This is not a video game. OSes are alot more complicated. I am saying the unix-world port software as common as getting coffee in the morning. They overlook the big picture where support, patch releases and all these non-technical customer-based issues get exponentially multiplied. Why do I got the feeling I am replying to someone who used to install TOMATO and POTATO versions of linux.
That is why Microsoft gets all the customer base.

Too many unix ports! For every 1 good unix-based OS, there will be 10 imitations wearing the audience thin across 10 different platforms.
There is seriously something wrong with the unix world if slashdot can have a post about a new unix distribution every other day.
Linus #1 + Alan #2 = a mediocre kernel that requires serious recompiling everytime devices are added.
Why isn't there more articles about SUN kernels or other flavors of unix?
That's crab, I am saying you're better off picking up an extra book for $20 and put that new language on your resume. Trust me, you'll come the same $$ as that CS major who wasted all their time programming circular linked-lists in C++ only to find out perl does it 40 times better in 3 lines as recommended by a MIS major down the hallway. 8)
If you think writing circular linked-lists is important in your major, you're in for a huge disappointment later. Advancements goes to those great with politics as with most companies... you are just employee number XXXX after the first couple months anyways.;)
The reason being CS professors end up telling their CS students to write the most worthless piece of code I can just download via some freeware site. On top of that, using the most inconvenient algorithm, and be tested on it later. MIS just graduates and sees the paycheck first.

Except 5 questions into the installations, and you're already stuck with driver problems cause the book doesn't go in anymore details.
