Uh, in order to constitute prior art, your post would have to be "enabling" -- i.e., it would have to enable a person of skill in the art to practice the invention without undue experimentation. Your post, which could be summarized succinctly as "Duh, stick a flywheel on the earth (wipe drool away)," would not qualify.
And since you think the invention would be so obvious, I would be very interested to see your detailed plans of a working generator along the lines you sketched out in a few poorly chosen words.
Yes, I am a patent attorney, and I get a little sick of the brainless patent bashing on Slashdot.
I have decided that this year, I am going to be a single-issue voter. (Gun nuts and the abortion-obsessed do it, why can't I indulge for once?) My single issue is personal liberties. I reviewed Bush & Gore's positions, and I was appalled that personal liberties are not even an issue between the two major candidates. They both support the increasingly intrusive police/survelliance state. They both wholeheartedly support the War on Drugs, and want to expand it even further. Clinton's record on civil liberties is a total disaster. The Republicans are no better. What choice do I have?
I decided that a vote for Nader would be the best way to express my views. I know, he's a flake. His economic policies seem to be aimed at turning the U.S. into either India or France, I can't really tell which. He'd make a terrible president. But he's come out in favor of relegalizing cannabis, which for me this year, is the touchstone.
Why not vote for the Libertarian, Browne? Because he's going to get less than 1% of the vote. My protest is louder when I combine my voice with numerous others.
For those of you who would vote for Nader but don't want to help throw your state to Bush, check out the Nader/Gore vote exchange sites.
The VCs and investment bankers who were bankrolling the.bombs got to sell their shares to a very, very gullible public on the first day. Not a bad return... for every few pennies invested in TheGlobe, you get to sell a share of that worthless pile of shit to Grannie for $360.
Rather than have some program where children are brainwashed into believing the drugwar establishment's position (however bogus it might be), I would prefer to see a drug education program, where teens are told the truth about drugs:
People have always ingested materials that make them feel better or different, since before history began.
Alcohol is one of the worst of them, in terms of what it does to your health and other unintended consequences.
Tobacco also has potentially devestating long-temr health consequences.
Marijuana is far safer than either alcohol or tobacco. No one -- and I mean no one -- has ever died from an overdose of marijuana. If it has long-term health effects, they are so subtle that their existence is still disputed after decades of study (compare with alcohol and tobacco!)
Many people find that using marijuana, occasionally and in moderation, improves the quality of their lives.
Look, kids, that is what a lobotomized agent of the drug war establishment looks like!
Every major-party candidate for a major office in this country is totally for the drug war, and totally against any consideration of decrim/rescheduling/legalization/medicalization of marijuana. They are too afraid to heed the will of the people on this issue.
So the re-legalization of marijuana is a grass-roots effort, with some fringe parties (such as the Greens and Libertarians) racing to catch up with the bandwagon. Despite what you say, the drug war is very well represented indeed among the electable class.
What we need is constant pressure from the grass roots for change. That is why I'm voting for Nader this year.
I'm a professional, a lawyer in a big Manhattan law firm, and I can tell you that just about everyone I work with has tried weed. Some of them smoke regularly. These are successful people, very. So my experience is that weed does not automatically make you a loser and a burnout. Alcohol is a much bigger problem in every respect, and yet it its use is tolerated.
Salon had an article today (which I'm too lazy to link to) about a mommy who slept in the store parking lot to be first in line... she brought some kitchen knives with her, I guess in case she had occasion to stab somebody.
And when are we going to get cannabis law reform? Certainly not under Bush, but just as certainly not under Gore. We need to show there is a substantial constiutuency out here for reform!
Just wanted to say -- in big states that Gore is certainly going to win anyway (e.g. New York and California), a few votes for Nader aren't going to change the result. I think Dubya would be an unmitigated disaster as a president, but I'm voting for Nader anyway, with a clear conscience.
Why is it that the first response I read is always some lame attempt at humor that gets modded up to +5 Funny? How about a user pref for filtering out responses according to their mod tags. I'd filter out the "Funny" crap, 'cause it never is.
I don't understand why someone doesn't just write the damn thing. The rpmfind database seems to have all the necessary information, why doesn't someone just write the wrapper that will make it work like this:

Don't dis the Powerpuff Girls, man. They rule.
I find your ideas intriguing, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Oh, ye gods, if only I had some mod points! And if I could use them all to mod this post up to its rightful level! Curse you, fate! CURSE YOU!!!!

Cool! Save some for your pal Grypype!
Yeah, but I bet you're all sold out of corn holders!
The Apple //e came with Little Brickout, which was a great game. So you suck.

No. I did.
No, it's a native app. At least the version I have is.
So when Christianity finally converts all the heathens, it will become a cult for a generation, and then revert back to a religion?
A religion is a cult that is politically powerful enough that it cannot be safely persecuted. I would say Unix qualifies as a religion.

Trust me. Don't do it. I'm not even kidding.
