How come everyone on slashdot hates Christians? I know you said Christian Fundamentalists, but as far as everyone else talking against Christians and religion in general, what's your problem?
If you lack religion then you lack religion. If you have religion then you have religion. Both sides have their problems. Both sides have their intolerants. I mean I've seen atheists who look at Christians, as stupid ignorant people. I've also seen it the other way around, however, where Christians see the atheist as being ignorant.
If I can't get into UCLA, I'll send my child to UCLA. I'll have a kid, and I'll force him to listen to Mozart since birth, I'll color his room yellow, I'll buy him books instead of toys, I'll make him play math blaster instead of doom, I'll force him to watch PBS instead of MTV, I'll make him do his homework when he gets home from school, study when hes done with his homework, and sleep at 8 every night, wake up at 6 every morning, eat a balanced breakfast, three healthy meals a day and participate in sports & extra curicular activities. I'll make him do everything I should have and didn't.
If I can't get to the Moon, or if I can't make it to Mars. Then I'll tell you what. I'll devote my vote, my tax dollars, to getting someone to the moon. And I'll call him my child. Because thats what we want right, as a country. To live out our dreams in our heroes, our idols. Those superstars, those NBA basketball players, those Rap stars, those Actors, Actresses, those Neil Armstrongs and Albert Einsteins. We all have heroes and idols. And I'll tell you what, if I personally can't get to Mars. I want someone who wlil, and I'll call him my hero, my idol, the liver-outer of my dreams. And I'll smile at his accomplishments and live happily and die satisfied.
And anyone who willing to crush my dream deserves to die.
Our solar system may be unique after all, despite the discovery of at least 120 other systems with planets, astronomers said on Wednesday.
All the other solar systems that have been found have big, gassy planets circling too close to their stars to allow them to be anything like Earth or its fellow planets, the British and U.S.-based researchers said.
Their reason for not having planets similar to earth say that the gassy planets are circling too close to their stars to allow there any room for an earthlike planet to exist.
Well. Gassy planets have moons dont they?
Saturn and Jupiter both have PLENTY of moons, and a couple of them are candidates for containing life. Why else are we sending probes, such as Cassini, to Saturn and its moons, including a particular candidate for life, Titan?
no one uses msn messenger anyways. why use a service when the people you are able to talk to are limited, plus the I don't find any of the features on MSN messenger much more useful than ICQ, Yahoo or the king of the hill AIM.
BG: There's no consideration of that at this point.
"At this point"? Very interesting that he seems to admit they might consider it at all. Or maybe I'm reading too much into a figure of speech.
Well. Microsoft makes software. Microsoft makes software for the MAC OS. Why not the Linux OS? Once it gets big enough, think about it. Bill Gates isn't going to simply go away once his OS monopoly has been defeated. He still has other options.
MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Frontpage, Etc)
MS Internet Explorer
MS VB, C++, J++, etc
MS Outlook (Express)
And all their other... stuffs. For Linux, availible 2005 Eh? =)
I am using Vorbis' *.Ogg from now on. It isn't only insane, its frickin' stupid. MP3's aren't just used for recording someone's intellectual property, isn't just for notorious B.I.G's Big Poppa soundtrack and isn't just for pornstar moans!
MP3's are a highly compressed sound file, very innovative and have changed the world. If you cannot play MP3's with Microsoft's MP3 player then I will use someone else's highly compressed sound system. I have plenty of MP3's that are released FREE by the artist themselves. For example, every single file on www.mp3.com is FREE to download and the artist WANT you to distribute their work. THEY WANT you to show the world that their music is kickass.
Not only that, I listen to comedians with mp3s. There is this funny Filipino(I am of Filipino Ethicity) comedian who has mp3s on the internet, and I LOVE to download them. You just can't take away someone's right to freedom of press, we are distributing sounds. NOT MUSIC. The only reason this bill will pass is because the stupid senators are on Sony's, Capital records', and Interscope records' payroll. The communist bastards, I cannot beleive this crap.
The day this happens, Im going to jail and Im going to hurt a lot of people on the way.
These days, when some kid does something at school, most people will blame video games or their pop culture.
I want to discuss two topics, video game violence, and their pop culture. In this post i will discuss video game violence and the sterotypes brought to it.
To get into my mind of thought, you'll have to think back to the 1980s, before I was born, and to Atari.
One of the most successful games was Pong, a simple game, yet was very popular. The original point of a video game was fun, competition, just like a game you play with your friends (i.e. Football, basketball etc.). Most of these days adults think of games as Doom, Quake and other violent games, and blame those games when their children get shot by some maniac at school.
The only reason "sane" people play video games is for competition, to say, "I'm better than you are" or "I beat you". Pong is a great example, the point of pong isn't to bash the walls with a ball, bounce the ball into your opponents paddle and make it fall off of the screen, bounce it rapidly and destroy everything on screen, or blow up anything. The point of pong is to get the ball past your opponents paddle, and accomplishing that gave you points. The first person to a certain amount of points would win; accomplishing this goal would earn bragging rights to your opponent. We could go on to a game such as tempest, the point of tempest isn't to blow up as many enemies as possible, devastate a battlefield and hurt things, hurt things crawling up a web that intend to hurt you, or blow up and destroy stuff. The point of tempest is mainly a "save the princess" plot, where you protect yourself, and get past the enemies to victory, achieving higher scores and journeying farther than you have before, then telling your friends that you made it to level 100 and that your score was in the billions, then having a competition whether he could beat you or not.
You could even go to golden eye, doom or quake and show what a video game is meant for, that everyone who hasn't played a game before takes everything for face value, like a movie trailer. Doom was never as successful as a multiplayer game like counter-strike or golden eye, or alien vs. predator, or nba jam
Simply because a competition game, a multiplayer game is the most played game. the point of doom was to protect your base from these invading aliens who wanted to kill all and you were one lone soldier with a bad boy gun that would kill all, the point of the game is to get to the last level, to find any secret levels, and eliminate all enemies possible, avoiding none, and leaving no one.
If you were to go to your friend as say "I played doom today and it was fun, I saw blood and guts all over my screen and killed 10 with one shot!" he'd think you were crazy, weird and were going to shoot up a school.
The sane child would go to a friend and say "I beat doom in one day and had 2,000,000 points, beat that!" and his friend would think he was good and would want to see him win again with that same score.
A point of a video game is for competitive purposes, not to see how much guts and blood you can blast onto your screen, but to see the effectiveness of yourself, to see that you could obtain a high score with 3 shots with a super-effective weapon you found in a hidden area. The point of the original video game was to beat your friend; the point of the modern-day game is to beat your friend. In counter-strike, the point isn't to save the world from terrorist, or to blow up the WTC, it is to beat your friend because you have a better aim, you have better hand-eye-coordination, you have a better computer and because you are better than they are. The saving the world from terrorist or blowing up targeted buildings is a side-story put there for the purpose of attracting people and mostly "eye candy". Just like Super Mario, the point isn't to learn the story, save the princess, or finish the game, its to get a high score finishing the game, finishing the game early and finding all the secret areas and sharing them with your friend. Most unsuccessful games, for example Mortal Kombat gold, are just games created by freaks, thinking because they have nice graphics and a lot of blood and guts get spilled, they will attract customers, but in reality they have left out the basics of video-gaming, you can't get a high score in mortal kombat gold, you can't beat people fast because you are better, you beat them because you push A faster and the brute force kills them. A game like street fighter, where you have special moves, combos, special characters, and scores, you can compare to your friend how well you can perform a special move or combo, which special characters you have obtained, and how fast you eliminate the enemy, unlike mortal kombat which has no scores, no special moves, no special combos (except those finish him stuff) and no time limit that forces you to be fast-paced. Street fighter is more fast-paced and you must do a lot of hits and maneuvering to get a great score and beat your friend.
These days, most people will look at games like mortal kombat that are unsuccessful and say that these kids played them and killed people because of it, but in reality all successful games have the basic elements of video games, the basic principles that were in video games since the beginning, competition. The unsuccessful games lack those properties and usually only appeal to a certain audience, like adult video games, which have no point at all except entertaining you like a movie. Mortal kombat gold entertains you like a movie, nothing else at all, not a true video games.
In every TRUE video game you will find the basic element of competition, and you will find that you don't play quake to see the blood and guts, you play it to out-play your friend...
everyone loves jeff minter =) we all wish that he would come over here and think about developing for Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/GameCube or the PC/MAC/Linux!!! =) we want THE YAK! we want THE YAK! =) we should all chant this together
another thing, i don't know why people dislike the nuon, did it do anything to you? are you angry because you think you wasted your money? i think you wasted your money by being on the interent, conserve power and the enviornment, not you money =)
nuon is a nice comfy system , i love my atari jaguar better, but i'd rather play those games on my computer or dreamcast, especially if there were some jeff minter games there =) the king of assembler? we should petition this (k3v) to get him to produce games for a syster we could actuallly by games for at a store =)
i really think tempest 3000 looks nice, why bad mouth tempest 4k? when its not even out yet?
i was never hooked to tempest(the original) because i wasn't really "alive" yet =) im 14, and i got hooked to atari jaguar, in 1998, 2 years after the demise of atari, i had a dreamcast and n64 but still was interested in the lost system, because of my love for games, i even thought about buying a saturn once just for the game "nights" =) i would also really like to see nights 2 for Dreamcast.
i never got into tempest, but tempest 2k was beautiful, eye candy and unresistable, i had to play hours and hours and hours on till i had to sleep and eat and do other bodily functions. its just plain old fun.
tempest 3k is even MORE eye candy and even harder to resist. iron soldier was nice, even the psx version was fun to play, those kind of games get you hooked and you want to buy a system, just for that one game.

Why can't the world just...
I'll tell you what though.
