Of course, it has the exact same problem that most copyright protection techniques have. How do you store the location in the media file in such a way that it can't be changed? And how do you prevent players from being manufactured that don't look at the location?
If these questions aren't answered then it won't prevent even casual copying.
but this really seems to be a slap in the face to the music copyright holders.
When I read this article, rather than think about the actual benefits of encoding DNA into a digital music file, I thought about how silly this makes music copyrights.
Media copyrights are so insanely long, that other industries are looking for ways to milk this loophole in the system. Hopefully stories like this will make people think about what the real use for these copyrights are and lead to some real reform regarding media copyrights.
You're right, but it seems so much more convincing when it is a single person. He just seems to come off as a lone hacker, who dislikes the way Microsoft is doing things. This appeals to me.
I also completely agree with him about shifting to Macs.. I'm hoping that Apple really does stuff with OS X, and maybe ports it to Intel hardware?;)
Umm.. hello. You've always been able to request that your post not be archived. And most archivers respect that.
For google not to put that in would be kinda weird.
As a reminder to anyone who didn't catch it, the Cesium project was a hoax.

I'd bet the real problem isn't that you are installing RH7.2, but that you are installing a new window manager. Try installing one of the older WMs. A Linux command line runs great, even on a 486.;)
RC1 stands for Release Canditate 1. It's similar to a "beta" version, although much more mature than a beta would be.
:)
Hopefully the full 1.0 release is coming soon.

While his lack of knowledge of history somewhat tarnished his statement, I think his point is very real.
This needs to be fair to MS as well. Although, I don't know what fair to them is, as of yet.

Quit being an ass. Does it matter? I'll bet you make mistakes too.

I'm pretty sure he was just kidding. And anyway, it was pretty amusing. I'd bet even Linus would chuckle. ;)
