Yet another opportunity for the Slashdotters to vent at Microsoft. Microsoft sucks, Linux rules... Yadda Yadda Yadda.
The point that you are all missing is that Linux, even in it's present form is not something that the average Joe Blow in the street can sit down in front of and use. It still requires too much command line work to use and Joe Blow in the street doesn't want to learn how to use a bunch of esoteric commands that simply don't make sense.
This is making me sick and tired of even trying to learn how to use Linux for fear of being caught in the vicious circle of one side hating another. Don't even get me started on the distributions war !
Yes, Microsoft's practices are not merely questionable - they are downright WRONG. They are popular, however. Ease of use is something that doesn't seem to take on in the Linux world. Stuck up kids seem to think that people who learned how to use windows many years ago should drop everything to learn what is typically seen as a form of double dutch... That is WRONG.
Linux is AMAZING!, but if the ease of use in the UI isn't sorted out, then that's all it will ever be. Ask yourself - Would your Grandma use Linux ?
