OK, I am a bit shrotsighted, but still, some of the captcha are so garbled with bright color random pixel/forms while the font color of what was to be read was light gray/pink/blue on white background (and naturally distorted) that frankly I swore loudly while trying for the 5th time to enter the correct random combo of lower case, upper case and digits.
I am not sure if a picture is better, but it is defintively a step forward if I don't have to spend 5 time retrying.
The irradiation thingy is easy to explain. In basic science class radioactive substance are spoken about, but light is spoken as "light". In my own experience it is only later that light as a form of radiation is spoken on. And don't get me started on ionizing radiation. People are not educated to understand this does not concern radiation as in alpha/beta. So the belief of irradiation=tchernobyl/a-bomb is easily explainable. Sadly I don't see it changing soon due to the above education problem.
You can convince of another scientific of the error of his/her ways. You can demonstrate that another scientific is wrong. In faith, well this is another can of worm. Trying to convince somebody/a group that their faith is wrong usually end in lapidation, decapitation, torch and burning, bombing, religious war, and I pass many over. Usually people in science DO NOT bomb/burn/throw stone at each other (although I am pretty sure you can find an example of it). It is true that people can MISUSE the RESULTS of the scientific method, but unless you can show me a scientific jihad of the newtonian believer against the heretic einteinian relativist believer , burning and execution at 11, then you can't even begin to compare the DAMAGE of the first to the second.
Aren't insect more resilient to radiation in general ? Thus the joke about the cockroach being the next master of earth in case the A,H and other 1 letter bomb start to fall ?
So if a country sue an US company for breaking their own local law, let us say by selling nazi memorabellia, the answer is "well swallow it, it is a free itnernet baby !", when pointed out that the company do business IN the country and thus should respect local law (whether that law is censuring free speech or not see nazi memorabelia above) we get the same answer. But when the country starts ENFORCING their local law by cutting down the pipe to the www there is again a scream of murder.
I take it that/. will never be satisfied until the US constitution and law apply everywhere in the world (*)... Maybe you should wake up and smell the fresh coffee in the morning, and realize that ONLY the local people in a country can fight the law of that country. Once you realized and accepted that and see the way the WWW is no local law can be applied, then The natural answer is a balkanisation or at least filtering of the internet. Just like there are frontier for a reason. And , oh by the way, when and where is the next "free speech zone" set up in 2008 ?
(*) Yes I know/. is not one person but a group of person. If you don't feel targeted by this post ignore it.
Let us forget the occupation for a moment and concentrate on the heart of the matter : an increase of defensive/offensive arsenal inn poland by the US in czech and Poland is directly aimed at Russia. Naturally Russia will then react and try everything from economical to political pressure.
The US would do exactly the same if Russia were to put more defensive/offensive arsenal in (hypothetically) cuba, or mexico city.
Now if you want my opinion, No bonus point for neither the US nor Russia for not pursuying disarmement while lambasting Iran or some other country to try to build nuclear arms. And lately the US instead even make it worst by stirring the bee hives.
whether the person has root level or not is another question altogether. I was taking here only the viewpoint of something being root.
Let us forget the very easy way of modifying the clock.
ctime is writen as byte on the HD plate, isn't it ? If it is written by the OS , then anything low level and complex enough can overwrite it. Or are you saying me that this writing of the ctime happens by magic and the byte cannot ever be modified with a low level controller or anything ? I am not saying it is easy, but if it is written by a computer on the HD, then it can be modified to make bogus data by a modified controller/driver/modified OS or whatever. Whoever has root, and time to spend, can modify the data on its HD to make it look as whatever he wish.
It is ok for a passer-by to see and look what is in the house, incidentally (and I think It is not ok, gawk and hawk, this is already illegal AFAIK). AGAIN It is ok to accidentally look. It is a breach of privacy to take photo of people's interrior and especially to PUBLISH them. The relevant point is not that something see what's inside the woman's house, the salient point is that it was published.
I do not know for more complex system, but in FAT and FAT32 it was relatively easy to change *everything* on the HD level to make it look like it was extremly old. I would assume that with some low level tool it could be possible on ANY system.
Google for "Operation Just Cause". The US quite clearly "intervenned" and invaded the country. And while the given reason was that they disliked the local dictator, the true reason was that the place had an immense strategic value and they had to keep it under friendly control. And my argument thus stand. Panama NEVER was an US province but was still "invaded" due to its startegic value. China at least can say they had tawain for a few years. The US can't even say that. I do not want to bash the US, but saying that China is the big bad wolf and the US the innocent white lamb, well this is compeltly and utterly ignoring your own USian history. The US did it in the past, and will do it in the future again if it is in their interrest, jsut like ANY country in the world does on regular basis in the blink of an eye. All the propaganda on bei9ng a democraty/socialist flagship country/republic/theocraty whatever is jsut that. In the end, what matter sis what is strategically (economically or military) of itnerrest for the country. The rest is for the journalist and the prole, to entertain them.
The fact is that the country from which it split up does not recognize the split to be legal. Let us get another example, if for some reason alaska were to be split from the US for a long period of time, I doubt seriously that the US would recognize its independence because of the strategic value of Alaska. Any plot of land with big strategic value will be "forced into the rank". Just freaking look at what happenned to Panama, and it wasn't even a US province. Fact is, as soon as a country recognized a huge strategic value in something/some country, it will bite in and not release the jaw. China has recognized the value of Tawain, and will not release the clamp.
Now I have to recognize that in such case, any excuse may be used to justify the end, so most probably China don't really care about the past, but most probably is more interrested into the present.
I am pretty sure the following "news" could be read somewhen in China
"'The US has established information warfare units to develop viruses to attack enemy computer systems and networks,' the annual PLA Defense departement report on USA's military warned. At the same, US armed forces are developing ways to protect its own systems from an enemy attack, it said, echoing similar warnings made in previous years."
This leave me wondering with such a NON-news, what sort of propaganda is theUS trying to kick up. Are there commercial negociation starting soon with China ? Are they trying to put some pressure on China for a better rate ?
The same way knowing your neighbours is musulman/christian by waiting at the entrance of the moskee/church is one things (public knowledge), but having a read point and click available database showing the religion of people is a privacy offense in many country (in europe). This is the commodisation of the information which is protested, and I think it is arguable that without commodisation the chear effort to get the same information on a whole group of people de facto protect them (although this is quite not the definition of secrecy, I would call it "losing the key in the hay stake". Same with sex offender list. You can research every people looking for home in your4 neighbourghhood for sex offense in every court, but having a lsit make it incredibly easy to single out the people.
No, it only proves that my own language is not english, and that I am too lazy to google for the correct expression. Thanks for playing, you can try again.
off topic : slashdot is not even accepting the (-euro sign) ? Or do I have to do some kind of weird html escape magic to get my trustee euro monetary sign ?
20 years old, living in her parents (basement) and not even paying herself the phone... And the parents whine for 70$ (I easily get 40 on my bill and I do only phone call, no text messaging...).
They charge as much as the consumer is ready to pay. Proof is in the pudding : despite horrendous SMS price in the US (compared to europe for example) people are increasingly using them. They will stop raising price when consumer stops to be ready to pay the price (stop using the service).
Because here around 70% (europe) of the gas price is due to taxes (it used to be that way but now it is probably around 60% due to the oil price raise). I do not think you gas in the US is taxed as much.
Quote : For decades, European countries have imposed high taxes on fuel to encourage conservation and fuel-efficient technologies while funding public transportation. In England, the Netherlands and Scandinavia, the taxes on gas are more than twice as much as the underlying cost of the fuel.
Although I am against to forget such horror as happenned during the Hitler in germanay, and the cooperation of many firm and religious eprsona, you would think that the VW of 60 years ago and the VW of today are not the same. The management is not the same, the CEO is not the same, the WORKER are not the same, the product are not the same , so why be surprised on VW refusing to be associated with Transformer with the VW which cooperated with Hitler 60 years ago ?
While it make sense to point finger at the firm & people of 60 years ago, it make absolutely no sense to point finger at the firm and manifacturer of today, unless they are publicly praising those of 60 years ago.
I work for LH at an airport which was built on the blood of Nazi victim. I would be really dumbfounded if somebody pointed its finger to me saying "nazi collabo !" or made any parallel to the LH of the 40's. But you jsut did that. I am pretty sure that in view of the corporate copyright holder lobby, this is not yet far enough. Wanna bet with me ?
As for the public interest, it has long been lost from view by politician pandering to their corporate master. And no I am not exagerating. There is no way a sane person would make such heavy punishment for a so little crime, in comparison to other more grave crime. They HAVE to be paid to believe in that crap.
They are not the benign god of apple that people worship for their beauty and good effect on their life (freya, Venus etc...) they are the vengeful hatefull god which is capricious (loki, cthulhu, satan, my cat, just kidding for the last one) you know, the one you hope never look at you and ignore you compeltly. "please do not blue screen please do not blue screen" or "please do not make an error while i save my word document with my thesis" or even "oh pretty please, play what I jsut brought without an "exception"" or even "please do not eat my first born" etc...etc... In other word Microsoft is prayed at, every seconds at this moment. Although maaybe not in a nice way.
In a study on kids, it was shown that the average US kids has less of a grasp on how the world is than the average kids of other continents. How was this done ? They were all asked to make a rough map of all continent. Although all kids had a tendency to make their own continent a bit bigger in proportion to the rest of the world, the biggest & msot extrem deformation was with US kids which in many case only drew the north american continent with some "blob" beside N-A representing the other continent. So this study clearly made a quantified demonstration that at least in low grade US kids have a less good grasp on geography than other kids.
Now granted this cannot be expanded to say "US adult do have too less a grasp on geography" but some annedoctial evidence with CNN (showing Austria as Hungria on TV If I remmember, and other of the same type) at least give an indication that at some level this might not be completly false to pretend that US adult have a poor grasp on world geography too. And if I may add, on world politic too, but that is my opinion.
none are able to control what happens between the rendering device and the sound card - what might be called "the digital hole".
Stop me if I am wrong, but the analogue hole means you CANNOT protect analogue signal against copy protection, as soon as the media content is transformed into an analogue signal (sound or light) and sent to the human for perception then it is over, you can hijack that signal and make a copy all over the place. This has nothing to do how your signal is going to go to your sound card, but what happens afterward... Isn't it ?
