I emailed this in as a dupe a half an hour or so before it was posted, but nobody pulled it. Makes me wonder if there's actually any point to it at all... worse still, the IE story was the last thing posted in the Apple section.
Thunderbird for OS X is getting better, yet it still has brain dead stuff like Command Shift M for a new message, instead of Command N. Command Enter to send email is nice.
GNU refers to the GNU OS, which when combined with Linux, makes GNU/Linux (GNU slash Linux, or GNU with Linux, as I prefer to say) - if GNU had just been a project to make userland tools, there would be no GNU prefix.
I had a hard time getting a free version(the official web page for Xchat makes you pay for the windows version wtf-way to alienate future OSS users, but ok) so I tried XChat2.
What makes you think it should be free of charge? Just curious, here. mIRC isn't free of charge.
TextMate is IMO, the best editor for OS X.
wait this just makes me a nintendo fanboy doesnt it?
Probably. Welcome.
Ah, so it's like.. the JVM, the applet bit that is slow?
Performance? Isn't Java pretty slow?
They're a bit like Doubleclick, but they have their own search engine and email service too, in order to make more money.

I think the parent is just saying that most people don't care that it's based on KHTML
It's not an application server though... It's a way of making Ruby apps quickly, and it does a lot of stuff for you, but you can override a lot of it.
I've come at it from Zope/Plone, and I really really love it... it's good to just *see* stuff happen, without having to feel like an idiot.
Looks pretty similar to the Windows version to me
;)
I think that's what they meant when they said ugly.

I would bet he's using Apple Mail and Safari, actually. Maybe even Entourage for mail.
I'd rather have QuickTime and iTunes.
As more and more desktop apps serve as an interface to a website, it'll become a lot easier to fix and deploy new functionality. This is a good thing.

Use Lynx over SSH. It won't even know when you sleep the machine.
Command N - new finder window.
Command Shift N - new folder.
You insensitive clod, I have to use Arachne with FreeDOS.
What do you do for a living? If they won't LET you install it, maybe consider working for a better company? :)
I think my point is more that having a link with "click here" as the link text is a really bad idea. Links should be on relevant text...
ie. More informationis available
instead of
Where does it says binaries should be free of charge in those licenses?
Except that putting 'click here' on anything is really lame.
;)
Try using a screen reader and you'll see why

Lack of AC adaptor in the box? ;)
As another iMac G5 user, I have a generic, Oxford chipset, Firefire caddy, with a 250gb disk in it.
Works like a dream.
I've seen that said before, yet I can't seem to find that in any of my copies of emacs.
GNU Emacs 21.4.1 is what I've got, the gnu.org site seems to not mention this 0.21.4.1 system either.
