Would it not be possible for Company Z to 'innovate' around the patent roadblocks of Company X resulting in different innovations than Company Y came up with? In this case the bloating is somewhat limited (since at some point you run out of "innovations").
You could further that argument and say that since taxpayers are currently paying for the research that they should be charged for the result...double charging.
The unfortunate thing is that universities must seek new means of funding themselves as the alumni find it harder to achieve financial success and the government pays less.
I would not say that it ruins the film. However it does seem to casue damge to the principles of the story, mainly the reputation of the Jedi.
Even though they are not a music group in the movie their real lives will carry over. (Think Madonna as Evita) This will alianate many of the traditional fans for the sake of profit.
Who are these traditional fans? They are the kids who pretended to be Jedi becuase of their courage and integrity. Certainly they will recover in time, but until then Lucas has distanced himself and the movie from it's fans, much like baseball has done, in the search for profit.
Is that the lesson a once proud Star Wars series should show it's audience? Who knows, but it is discouraging.
jandrese: I think 91degrees is talking of the fact that these machines seem to be evolving. Comparison:
We didn't design the human architecture, but we can design simple organisms. Likewise, though we designed these simple machines they can evolve beyond our comprehension.
91degrees: What's so disturbing about? It has long been said that mankind would bring about it's own destruction. As jandrese stated we programmed these robots, with that we program in our immoral logic and all that comes with that. We will become useless and expendable. I don't see why it should be disturbing since it is expected.
