  1. Re:what have the romans ever done for us?? on Always Look on the Bright Side of Life · · Score: 0

yeah, you know, or since every major civilization that we have records from has a flood story in it, from all over the world, it must just be alot of people cheating off each other. yeah, that must be it, no reason that we should think that ancient people had a brain, they probably just copied off of each other.

  2. Re:Good idea !!! on Always Look on the Bright Side of Life · · Score: 0

When people were crucified, it took days for them to die. The Romans used to line the roads with rebels and criminals on crosses of all sorts. They would allow them to linger for days, sometimes more than a week, before they died of starvation or bleeding, or if they took long enough, the Romans would just come and kill them. Both of the theives had to have their legs broken so that they would collapse and stangle themselves with their own body weight.
The fact the Jesus died before they even had to break his legs shows the severity of the beating that he endured before hand. Exactly because it was so brutal, and he lost so much blood, he died prematurely, compared to anyone else crucified at the time. Far from removing the humanity, it is exactly what Gibson is pointing to throughout the movie.

No. Though many here on slashdot, and many who read those magazines, are adults and capable of making the decision of how much sexuality is enough, people on slashdot forget that they aren't the only people in the world. despite gains in adult gamers, a huge portion of gaming is still done by young people, mere children.
i am not saying that they should be removed from the shelves, but it is ok, even good, to be bothered by the rise of sex in gaming. it happened to comics too, and both are still very available to children. we should protect children from exposure to sex as much as possible (they will see stuff, yes, but the less the better). exposing children to sex has many consequences, not to mention that kids don't have the ability to make an educated choice about sex (hence laws that protect minors).
i don't know, i just get tired of people being called a prude because they (i) don't like to see sex cheapened and used to sell something, and they (i) hate even more to spoil children's innocence (it will be, but must we rush so headlong into it??)

  5. Re:Supporting Monotheism? Are You A Terrorist? on Defining Globalism · · Score: 1

    Dear Sir (I assume),
&nbsp I am sorry, but that is an inaccurate description of monotheism. Judaism, which grew out of Mosaism, the religion of the Old Testament, is not performing a holy war. They are actually trying to keep land that was given to them after World War II. Not to say they are purely innocent by any means, but just because a "religous group", who is actually a race, is at war does not mean it is a "holy war".
&nbsp As for Christians, which I am, to say that they "caused the dark ages" is completely wrong. Not only is there no causal relationship, but it was in fact the workings of the Church, (not really defending Middle Age Catholic Church here) and the artists and thinkers employed or trained by them, that helped pull Europe out of the Dark Ages. And it is certainly not the "cause" of the terrorism in Ireland, that is more realistically a battle over land and political power. Crusades, oppression, these things happened in the name of Christ, but it seems obvious that the true teachings of Jesus condemn these actions, therefor the religion is not truly the cause, it is once again man's selfish ambition.
&nbsp Now as to the Muslims, there are obvious issues. But again, the brand of Islam we saw on September 11 is the more extreme form of the two. However, I do not even pretend to support the Qu'ran either, nor the disrespect and abuse of women and children.
And please don't call monotheism evil.
