Thanks for the link. It's nice to know someone is still developing this technology. Haven't seen one of those billboards yet (but I haven't seen the ones with the crashing windows displays either), but I'm very happy to see that they have an revenue source so they can get on with developing my electronic reader!
Seriously, this is great! I haven't heard anything about this for a couple of years!
Small lakes actually freeze easier (less movement in the water, and less volume means that it doesn't take long for the water to get below 0). You don't have to go that far north to get nice thick ice either. The little lake on my family's quarter section would normally freeze from 12' - 15' thick, and we were ~40 KM south and ~120 KM west of Edmonton.
Well, the only way for that to work is for the whole 'voted off by the other characters' to be a complete lie. In which case, I think someone would come out and tell the public that the show was a lie.
When someone gets that 'digital ink' thing that SciAm had an article about a couple years ago, then I'll get interested in a digital reader. I've not heard of any other technology that is going to be as easy to look at for hours on end as simple white paper...
That's not flamebait, that's humor through the use of irony... Besides, I don't think anyone on slashdot (except maybe the trolls) would be inclined to argue the creationism side anyhow...
Yeah, well that seems reasonable. God knows King's horror novels tend to have bad endings. (I was actually somewhat enjoying Needful Things until I found out that the answer to "how's he gonna get out of this?" was a particularly bad deus ex machina.)
That 'report' is more along the lines of an executive summary, isn't it? I was kinda hoping they'd talk a little more about the orbit. Since they bothered to mention it was elliptical, I'm assuming it signifigantly elliptical, and not Earth-orbit-type-elliptical. What I want to know, is it Pluto-orbit-type-elliptical, or something more like Halley's Comet's orbit?
Knowing that, don't you just feel warm at night thinking about how the whole western economic system is based on an even bigger game of faith in imaginary money?
The secret to not making a lot of noise with your movie junk food is to not bloody open/eat/crunch/whatever it when the theatre's quiet! Wait for the loud explosion or arguement, then munch.
I'd have to say that, like all good trolls, Moody's little article there is too ridiculous to do more than ellicit a small grin, raised eyebrow, and small chuckle at the thought processes of some people. I mean, there's not really anything here to make an intelligent person alter their opinion, and one would hope that most server ops fall into that category (since he's talking about use as a server OS, that's who I assume he's writing to) I can see why CmdrTaco didn't think this was worth posting...
Actually, I thought Mario 64 had the best control scheme I could imagine for an N64 controller. And its still one of the best games to come out for the system. (which is mostly because its too expensive to make games for than because its some manner of gaming pinnacle). You're right about the copying of the cute character games, which is, imo, hurting Nintendo by marketing exclusively to 10 year olds...
Nearly all traffic goes through the US at some point. Unless you know that you and the recipient are both on the same backbone, chances are very good that you're communications get sniffed by some American or other.
I'd be surprised if there isn't at least one gaping hole in the hole that basically neccesitates obscurity to prevent either sabotage or abuse (in the case of the latter, I expect that the flaw would be intentional: just because they can't use it as evidence, doesn't mean they aren't inclined to listen anyhow...)
Super Metroid? I distinctly remember playing that one on SNES... (recently too. that was a damn fine game, that I went back and beat again about a year ago. It's also yet another game that won't see a sequel because Nintendo's too busy with cute mascot games for four year olds to make games for those of us who built their dominance of yesteryear...)
FF VIII isn't very original. It's just a really pretty version of the same console rpg's that have been around for 15 years or so. I still played the last couple Final Fantasies (and enjoyed VII alot more than VIII, 7 had more depth, especially in the magic system), but the last time I was really enjoying console rpg's was the fall of '95 when Legend of Mana and Chrono(trigger?? can't remember the title off hand) were pushing the SNES to the max. The genre's too old, and the horribly artificial battle system is just not fun anymore...
That game pissed me off. I never even made it past the first choice. I wasted about four games worth of money, without ever figuring out so much as which directions were valid at what point....
Hmm. I couldn't find that link two days ago when I was looking through all the stuff at ThinkGeek. The only thing I found was a zoom of the shirt which was still illegible...
You know Jacob, if you go around talking about two's all the time, the Hooded Fang is going to see through your pseudonym and come after you again...
note to moderators... just because you don't understand the reference, doesn't mean that others won't either...

aren't planetary asteroid belts considered rings?

never mind. I didn't notice the score 0 comment you were actually replying to.
nested mode needs to show the "x replies below your current threshold" in the space where they would be if they were showing.

Yeah, ok. So when's Space starting over? I've finally got my place to myself, so setting my vcr to autorecord them will be feasable now...

If 3-5 decades back is your recent memory, how many centuries back is your not-so-recent memory?

"... and that's why the sun sets in the west and rises in the east. Yes Timmy?"
But, the Earth doesn't rotate that way. It goes the other way!
Well, Timmy, I'm afraid it doesn't, or the sun would set in the east instead... who told you this Timmy?
The Exploropaedia in the library has a movie of it.
Well Timmy, you need to remember that the Exploropaedia is made by Microsoft...
Timmy's expresion shifts to one of Zen enlightenment...
True, but one would hope that said cube dwellers have no actual decision making powers.

I just now finishd metamodding. Don't know if it was there last night or not, I didn't stay up very late...
