Actually, there is one very real and important barrier to CG actresses becoming mainstream... No casting couch opportunities for the producer, director, etc.
I guess I'm kind of shocked that whatever agency (Olgivy, I think??) IBM used to do this didn't cover it by using bio-degradable dyes instead of toxic paints. That and a wink and nudge (and campaign contribution or two) from Big Blue to SF comissioners could have made it all a non-issue. I know that it isn't terribly tough to figure out that San Fran's gotta have some stringent eco-laws.
OK, here is another thought. It would be logical that "crooks" do some things in common, or share some electronic traits.
I mean, one could expect that they use encryption with a reasonable certainty. One would expect certain words or phrases to stick out (pertaining to the crimes being discussed).
That would indicate that ML could USE these traits in a heuristic fashion to TRIGGER it's own events. A simple (small) dictionary and a presence checker for PGP or similar, and voila!, you have a method to identify "possible criminal activity".
INAL, but it would seem that this pertains to proper warrants, which is part of the brew-haha over the current Electronic acts in congress, right?
I am seeing lots of conjecture about how virus protection needs to be altered to allow Magic Lantern to work. I guess I may have missed something, but two things come to mind:
Anti-virus systems are not firewalls or proxies. The heuristic scanning they do is against certain behaviours common to malware, including, but not limited to, self-replication. Certainly, that would not be a factor with Magic Lantern.
Does anyone have more that a pure bloody guess at what Magic Lantern is supposed to do, let alone the mechanics of it?
It just seems to me that a lot of theory is being built without any foundation at all.
Some of OS/2's strength shows in the fact that in the mid 90's Sprint Corporate HQ ran two phone lines only for all incoming and outgoing faxes. Handling and routing was done via an OS/2 box using a Brooktrout card.
I've seen a lot of "cool" applications of multi-tasking using OS/2, but many less these days. I was a "Salmon Ninja" for a while, before Warp 4 and a lack of native software in my industry made me pay Redmond for it's sewage.
Oh, well, OS/2 isn't the only product that starved in development because of the competition and superior marketing. Think Beta video tape, for one.
Excuse me, "erode MS' product reputation"???? They would have to have a positive reputation for security in point release products for someone to erode it.
Before the asbestos long johns get toasty, let me state that, yes, I run an MS OS. Yes, I run MS apps. I am not anti-MS, just anti propoganda.
That said, I would take it better if they said they didn't issue a bulletin so as to prevent knowledge of the hole leading to attacks. I won't comment on the engineering time, I've seen fast patches and slow ones. But I've also seen a whole lot of them regarding MS and security.
Just my opinion. Not trying to troll here.
My opinions are my own, my employer doesn't pay me enough for my opinions to be his.

just my two cents worth, of course
