  1. Re:Spellchecker for Mozilla on Mozilla Adding Spam Filters · · Score: 1
The problem with the spellchecker from Mozdev is that there are no binary .xpis for Mozilla 1.1 and 1.2. The source compiles to a somewhat workable, somewhat flaky spellchecker, but not solid enough to justify distributing binaries, and I have not had the time to dig into the sources of the flakiness. There are binaries for some systems here thanks to Stuart Johnston.

That said, it looks very likely that there will be a new spellchecker architecture in 1.3 real soon now, and I will endeavour to provide a simple spellchecker for it.

Those wishing to read works similar to PKD could do considerably worse than reading Kobo Abe. "The woman in the Dunes" is probably his best and most accessible work, but "The Box Man", "The Ark Sakura", and "The Face of Another" and others whose titles I forget are worth reading if you like a slightly twisted view of reality.

The mozdev server seems to be temporarily overloaded. Chimera has been popular, and maybe the spellchecker is as well.

I have not been keeping the .xpis in the bug in synch with Mozdev. Mozdev is easier for me and for the users (as long as it works.) Downloading seems fine, but cvs seems broken. I'll bet that they took cvs offline to recompile it because of the zlib bug.

    One caveat regarding the spellchecker:
If you write emails consisting of one word, spell that word correctly, and if you misspell it dont try to change it from the spellchecker

If there are any mac Mozilla hackers who have compiled the spell checker, Iwould like to know and I would gladly distribute binaries. There are at least two competing fixes for bug 83933, (no way to dismiss the spellchecker.), hopefully they will make it into 1.0. Pick up your mouse and vote! The same goes for bugs 128094, 86296.
