I have a good friend who works for the UU.net. AOL is their largest customer, and they provide both dialup and "backhaul" for AOL. From what I understand, it's ALOT.
Wow, that would be scary. But, it's a smart business move on AOLs part. They need to migrate from legacy (ala modem) to some kind of high speed connection. More and more AOL users are finding faster alternatives and are just as happy. AOLs hay day of modems are soon to be over.
The bigger question to me is, now that AOL is acquiring all these internet providers(TWTC, ATT) are they planing on removing themselves as a customer from MCI Worldcoms UU.net, seeing that UUnet provides AOL with just about all their dialup ports and internet connections.
My only question is, does this work with DirectTivo boxes? I know that the Tivo software does NOT record Direct Tivo streams as mpeg. They save them as the encrypted steam direct from DirectTV. (That's how the Dual Tuners will work once implemented, they record both encryped (One Card to decode) and decyrpt on the fly while you're viewing it)
Interesting idea. Wonder how the networks are gonna handle it. HBO and other good pay network mini-series might have a huge revenue lose if people can just down load it over the internet. Hmmm.....
MS and their annoying things.
Now that MS has officially announced the death of the annoying clipit. They replace it with an even greater annoyance. AOL. Hmmm..
Can I have clippy back?
I'm an online gamer. I have been since 95, and will continue to play until my hands fall off (Or until I get married ). I have had to fight cheating as both an Administrator, and as a player. And it's simple frustrating when a well respected company goes as low as to boost sales by releasing cheats.
I personally, will no longer buy an asus product. I've had 5 motherboards, and 2 video cards, and several other asus boards I have recommended to clients/friends. It's to late, the damage is done. Asus should have realized their major mistakes when they got huge negative feedback when the announced them. Including an open letter from the largest gaming league out their.
So, what can we do to fight this? You can NOT buy an Asus product. Not just the video boards. Buy an Asus product will also endorse their direction and compormising nature of their product. Please, help us on-line gamers protect our dignity, by not letting a corporation attempt to gain market share by cheating!
We still have hope. Thinks like punkbuster will help defend atleast league play. Please stop by and offer your support.
Valve and the CS Team were slated to not allow for any modified models, but due to the otherwhelming "No" from the gamming community, they opted not to. A rather crappy stance on cheating if you ask me, with the advent of "CS Pro Pak" The "Voodoo" Cheats, spiked models is one issue that could be quickly addressed by ALL game manufactures by simply not allowing people to modify their models. This is a quick, easy way to address a mounting problem. Not nearly as "Personalized", but 10 foot polls sticking out of ones forhead detracts from gameplay 10000 times more then sacraficing "Personality" for "Honesty"
Face it, people are smucks, and no matter what we do, some a-hole will cheat. The only way to rid on-line games of cheats is to rid the user. But I hope game designers (And third party people, like Reactive Software) continue to fight llamas!

I may be wrong on this (dont' flame me!) but I thought RR was never bought out by Mediaone.
I believe it was a Road Runner / Cox Communications merger, and a seperate Mediaone / ATT merger.
