One problem with laser is that it spikes the hell out of your power supply, will kill a UPS, and if not on aseperate circuit can wreak havoc with your other equipment.
I would have to disagree with that last post. I have a single outlet in my home office. I have a dual cpu computer another single cpu computer, 19" monitor, 17" monitor, scanner, switch, router, cable modem AND LaserJet 6mp all connected to that outlet (oh, and the desk lamp). I have had this setup for over 4 years, and have never had any trouble with the laser printer killing a power supply, UPS, or anything else. There may be some old Laser printers (or cheaper current ones) that draw a huge load or cause electrical problems, but I have never had any trouble with mine.
No, I don't think they'll be running back to their KDE.. Think about it, I don't run back to CP/M or DOS 3.0 which is the UI that I grew up with. I DEFINATELY do not run back to Windows 3.0, Mac System 1, etc,etc..
Although I don't think these kids will see as significant a change that I saw growing up, there will be new UI's comming along and generally speaking, each new UI is better than the last.
I think that these kids atleast will have grow up with computers, many of which my generation did not. That already gives them the edge. It's not like us old folks that have ALWAYS had a computer around.
Yes it would be illegal if you and your spouse were listening to separate copies of the CD.
Is is a problem of having multiple copies or multiple listenings? What if some CD-player company came up with a CD-player that would allow multiple tracks for the album to be played on multiple outputs? So Track1 plays in the dining room while track2 plays in the home office?
It's the same physical CD, so no copy protection laws borken there. But it is 2 different people listening to it, but listening to different songs.
One thing that everyone seems to be missing is that a wire tap is evidence that is very well documented. The date/time of the recording is testified to and the recording itself of someone's voice is very diffult to fake.
What if the situation was: Girl and Guy meet in Internet.. chat and email for awhile. Girl gets attached to Guy.. Guy finds out she's 15.. (holy sh*t).. stops emailing her, stops chatting with her.
Girl now upset at Guy, feels betrayed. Takes emails received from guy, pulls them up in Word, modifies email to incriminate the guy, prints them out and send them to the police..
Guy is now in trouble. Yes, all the ISP logs show he was logged in at the time, and the sendmail logs all confirm that he sent the email. We've got a real pervert here.
Not that I am saying that this is what happened. But it is a possibility. A printed email is hearsay because it is easily modified. If, as in this case is was introduced as evidence, it should have been disregarded as hearsay. But if the police did have a wiretap (email-tap?) which showed the IP packets in full detail, with date/time, etc, then they wouldn't be hearsay and would be proof.
I use my cable modem to access machines at work. It's mostly emergency type situations where I could fix a problem from home (or at 3:00 am) quicker that it would take me to drive to work.
Look at the policy this way. What if Verizon (or you local phone company) said that you cannot call your office unless you got a business phone line in your house to call from? Sounds exactly the same to me. The cable company (like the phone company) shouldn't care (shouldn't be ALLOWED to care by law) a damn about what you are using it for, especially when they are a monopoly.
My cable modem is not for business use, I use it for my own personal stuff, but occasionally use it to do some work.

That's because Windows doesn't support uptime in the server headers... Why don't you read out it here: Netcraft Uptime
