  1. Stay with Standard C++ but... on Competitive Cross-Platform Development? · · Score: 1

    "What tools and strategies can we use to increase our productivity and regain our competitive advantage, without going for Windows only?" Support for threads and network programming are not yet part of Standard C++ Library but does not mean that these libraries cannot be used right now. I recommend first to check www.boost.org. Also, to maintain maximum reusability of C++ code across different platform I suggest checking following General-purpose third-party libraries: - Rogue Wave Threads - Objectspace Thread Classes - Ace Thread Classes - John Harrington Thread Classes - Allan Kelly's Class Templates - Bio-Rad's Thread Classes

    I don't know for the Linux development but overall, Ottawa and Toronto look very good. I am in Ottawa and reading from posters from the US, looks they have been hit very hard with the real tech slump in all areas, not only Telecommunication Industry. The good thing in Ottawa is that Government with spending is trying to compensate for the tech jobs loss in telecommunications.

    Excuse me, but what is the reason you are not considering moving databases to SQL Server 2000? Microsoft SQL Server is closest to Sybase ASE among other database products.

  4. What about 17" or 18" Laptop? on 21" LCD Monitor Kits? · · Score: 1

    I have at work wonderful black IBM T750 TFT screen, which is 17-inch and is much less expensive then 18-inch IBM T86H. They both have 1280x1024 as a native resolution. My dream is to have laptop with 17 or 18 TFT screen. Now when prices are so low at least for 17-inch model I wonder how long will take to see first laptop (??) of this kind. Is anyone sharing the same dream with me?
