I agree that Mac OS X has lots of inconsistencies, but I and many others still find it far more usable than any other OS out there. It sucks at times, but it sucks a lot less than the rest.
As for backwards compatibility, are you new to Apple under Steve Jobs? The guy throws backwards compatibility out whenever he can. It's all about moving on to new things. If you like to keep using the same things in the same way for 5-10+ years, then Apple under Steve is not for you.
You're a troll. Jobs is clearly saying that Theora will be coming under attack from patent lawsuits. He's not saying that he's the one who will launch it, or support it. He's simply addressing the reasons why he won't support Theora.
Agreed. It's a tragedy that most people don't share your stance, including members of the military, many of whom will vigorously defend fellow soldiers that massacred civilians.
With the Courier, they innovated on paper only. It's the end product that matters. That means solving a lot of engineering and industrial design challenges along the way. Talk is cheap. Delivering is what counts. I was looking forward to seeing how they would do it.
Microsoft is way too large for their own group. They have heaps of smart engineers and developers but the bureaucracy ensures that most of their innovation goes to waste. Microsoft executives would do well to read "ReWork" by 37signals.
huh, what direction would that be? There's plenty of competition out there, Google will (hopefully) be coming out with their own devices that will run Flash. Everyone will be happy.
Yeah, funny that. Not everyone requires their phone to be extensible in order to be "functional". The iPhone was the first phone/PDA to be truly usable and with all the features I needed to be productive. Whenever someone says Apple stuff is superficial shiny bling bling, you know that they're ignorant and closed-minded as hell.
Design is about how it works. That's where the iPhone and Apple will always be superior, because ignorant geeks like you just don't get it. You think that usability is superficial unnecessary bullshit, when in fact, it's the most important part of the product.
You know why the majority of consumers are willing to put up with Steve Jobs' controlling antics? No, it's not because users are idiots and people are sheeple etc. It's because the end user experience trumps everything, and Apple make products with great user experiences.
I normally dismiss "religious cult" comments along the lines of yours, but your one actually makes a good point about morals. You have a good argument.
Like most of the Slashdot crowd, I think you have got the core market completely wrong. Apple's core market nowadays is the everyday consumer: that includes young and old, liberal and conservative. And you definitely don't need to be rich to buy Apple products. By pandering to the Disney oh-think-of-the-children crowd, Jobs is appealing to the safest common denominator.
I also disagree with you about lots of people thinking porn is harmless. Just about every male consumes porn, that is true. But in public, they're not going to admit that.
I don't think he's trying to state his own moral position, he's just pandering to the Disney crowd as you say. But yes, it would be nice if he admitted it openly.
I believe that is not correct. What I read up until now is that Flash CS5 doesn't actually produce any Objective-C code. Think about it: if it did, Apple wouldn't be able to stop Flash CS5, since it wouldn't be able to tell that the output came from CS5.

Well, what's your point? What kind of control would you like the user to have that the iTunes DRM-free songs don't give you?

It's not FUD if it's the truth.

This is one of the best posts I have read on Slashdot for a long time. Thanks for taking the time to voice your insight.
You sound like a fair, reasonable guy. Thank you for your jury service.
The term "hajji" is a perversion of "Hajj", referring to the pilgrimage to Mecca:

Sour grapes.
Umm, weren't Q-ships used precisely because of Germany's unrestricted submarine warfare? Chicken or the egg?
Keep talking, you're painting yourself as more and more delusional.

Except we're talking about desktop computers here, not mobile phones or tablets. But don't let that get in the way of a good zealous rant.
Typical that such a load of ignorant bullshit like this gets modded up.
I normally dismiss "religious cult" comments along the lines of yours, but your one actually makes a good point about morals. You have a good argument.
It's basic common sense strategy. You don't play the game according to your opponent's rules. You act instead of react.
Sheesh. Only on Slashdot do people think that announcing your platform is porn-friendly is a positive PR move.
Freedom, sure, everyone can back that. Porn? Not so much.
Don't go giving them any ideas, now.
Spot on.

Since when was the iPhone declared a monopoly?
How does bullshit like this get modded up?
