  1. In 1966 my high school offered a computer programming class. Although we had a FORTRAN, compiler the class they offered was IBM 1401SPS. The instructor was one chapter ahead, at best, and his knowledge was so little he could not explain that when the Move data instruction was used the data was still in its original place also. The computer we used was an IBM 1620. Punch cards of course.

    The class was enough to whet my appetite and I made my career working with computers. I first worked in H/W maintenance, then as a programmer (assembly and FORTRAN). My introduction to UNIX was in 1983. Then I spent 8 years in mini-computer sales as a pre-sales engineer and finally as a UNIX sysadmin. My first internet experience was in 1988. There certainly have been a lot of changes in the last 40+ years.

    I have an Android, Samsung Galaxy 5 and I have found the app very useful.

    If I go into the 'App Info' and click "Force Stop" does that prevent it from collecting and forwarding information?

    I treat these networks like I treat email. I have multiple email accounts and multiple social networks accounts. Find an email provider that provides filtering and forwarding.
    Mine are roughly divided like this; 1) Personal, close, true and trusted friends and selected family members. 2) A business account for legitimate and legal uses. One for each business. 2) Social contacts, acquaintances, blogs, SOME social media sites. 3) Throw away accounts, may or may not use a pseudonym with significantly different demographics. This is used for sites that demand a valid email address. This account is rarely check except to hassle Nigerian scammers. Use your imagination for other possible uses.

    Ask yourself not what you get from the job but what do you "become" from this job. The first couple of jobs you have out of school you should learn more about the IT industry. You may find you enjoy doing macros is more satisfying, doubtful. If you take a cut in pay it will not have a significant impact on your life style. I would go for it.
