I have the distinct feeling most of these astronauts have a clue about the possible dangers. If any of them are that worried, maybe they should have gone to law school instead.
Not to diminish the importance of their safety, I just don't see any clear reason why this would be more dangerous than any another manned mission??
It took a government study to figure out that open source software is cheaper?
The setup looks pretty smart for that price though. Will this actually make any difference for third-world countries? I have no idea.. but I don't see anything wrong with computers becoming available to more people for less money.
Too bad performance isn't better for high output, this will dissuade hardcore OC'ers. I wonder if the design will take some root and advance a little, or fizzle out along with all the other weird gimmicks the PC cooling industry has seen over the years.
There is definitely a market, with people expressing themselves through their PCs nearly as much as their choice in clothing and cars these days. The price will decide much of the Jefi's fate, ultimately.
It doesn't bother me if MS wants to spend their time and money hunting spammers. I doubt their motivation lies solely with raking in millions from the defendants, especially since they probably will only collect a fraction of that money.
In this case, it's probably less about spammers/scam artists in general as it is about protecting their intellectual property.
Microsoft has their own selfish motivations for this whole "campaign", as we all would as executives forced to act in the best light of the company. I could personally care less what they are, though, as long as they're ousting the spammers. (And doing so through a legitimate means).
People have been griping about this forever now. It truly amazes me how misguided parents can be.
Take the hundreds of hours you spend whining and moaning, and go spend them with your children. Parents need to take some responsibility for their children's upbringing, if you don't like a game, then don't let them play it. If you hate television so much, don't let them watch it.
I don't think hiding your children from reality is a good choice, though. It only truly becomes an issue when it's made an issue. You rant and rave to your child for years about how evil this that and the other thing is, there is probably a much better chance of them having problems coping with the cruel reality of our world when they are eventually forced to anyway.
Provide guidance, wisdom, and caring for your kids. Teach them the difference between reality and video games, teach them to treat others with kindness, and let them come to their own conclusions.
Going postal from playing a violent game only proves that you are one of two things: stupid, or insane.
As mentioned, I too dislike the high probability of invaid or misleading information.
But mostly I fear the ability of your average cop to understand the importance and usefulness of said information.
But, I suppose, if you don't want it on public record... don't do it!

Ooh.. lots of modding potential.

Wouldn't it be great if we could trust the US govt. that much? Unfortunately I feel hoodwinked by the entire Patriot trojan. There is no trust here...
