    no.
It's sad that I even have to point this out:
they could have sold one song 1,000,000 times.

  2. Re:Oooh yummy! on Updated Power Macs at Apple.com · · Score: 1

No, Intel chips (particularly the P4) break the execution of instructions into smaller chunks(pipeline stages) than PPC chips do.

This means that each pipeline stage in an x86 has less work do than each PPC stage. so.. the hardware designers are able to make the chip go faster, because the pipeline stages can go faster,

*each pipeline stage* does less work in an x86. but the pipeline itself does a similar amount of work.

Of course I'm ignoring the fact that a given processor may have N int pipelines and M float pipelines and O Vector pipelines, all of which may share resorces. But in a nutshell, PPC run at lower clocks because Mot/IBM have thrown less effort or hardware at them:
-smaller pipeline stages take more chip area than larger stages, for a given design.
-smaller pipeline stages and faster chips take more man hours than bigger stages and slower chips.

Parhelia can certainly do 3200x1200. In fact, it does it as 3200x1200 or 2x1600x1200, depending on your preferences. In dual-head mode, the two displays (DVI or DAC) have identical capabilities.

And.. that's 32bpp.. with full 3d accelleration going on. For multiheaded 3d, I don't think you can beat it. It isn't cheap, and it isn't the fastest beast by any means, but if you need multiheaded 3d, go with the Parhelia.

They new because when they dragged up the Methane Hydrate, the sea surface bubled like a massive alka-seltzer was dropped in. the hydrate off-gasses at ambient temperature/pressure, and since the volume of methane held in the hydrate is massive, dragging up a small amount made a big stink that it was hard to ignore.

According to one of the scientists studying the deposit, it was lucky none of the deck hands were smoking.

Indeed, ATI people have stated that it would be possible to create shaders in whatever language you prefer. DX9 HLSL, Cg, OpenGL 2.0 SL.

But more importantly, all the ARB members are working to unify the various approaches in the OpenGL 2.0 shading language. 3DLabs and NV have both contributed proposals, and the relative merits are being discussed.

Expect to see a much more managable shader situation in 2003. A developer will be able to use wichever tool like RenderMonkey they wish, or roll their own. I fully expect to see tools like this as plug ins to 3DSMax, Maya, Softimage etc.

FYI, the name refers to RenderMan, in case anyone didn't get that.

(i don't work for any of the above)

Of course most of us have thought about this kind of thing: a laptop with LCD glasses for the plane.. contact lenses that modify the wavelenght of light passing through them..

Interesting to note that for someone with a visual prosthetic, a computer is using the visual cortex as a display device.
