I thought that's what the tags are for. Instead of modifying the email, you simply tag it website A, or website B.

Yeah. that's why there is no real market for ext2/ext3 as well. Because windows cant read it...
  3. Good Luck! on After College, What Type of Jobs Should One Seek? · · Score: 1

One of the first things I learned when I graduated from college and entered the software world, was that they didn't really teach you how to code well. I was lucky and got a job at a small company that enforced good coding practices ( Unit testing, peer code review, etc). My first task was a small program to automate importing data into a database. While it worked as designed, the one hour spent on my code review taught me more about code quality, portability, and planning for the future changes than any class. I'd recommend getting a staff position and working your way up, but that's just my story.

  4. A nice solution if you run your own server... on De-spamming Your Inbox The Hard Way · · Score: 1

I work for a group that has purchased a commercial anti-spam solution for our 17,000 users. The support folks have put out a whitepaper (which I can't find right now, but you need a support login anyway) with some tips.

Basically, one of their sugestions was to put a dummy MX record in your DNS. This is a record that doesn't point to an active host or point to a host that is not accepting mail. Most spammers don't worry about which emails were accepted and they certainly don't bother with the overhead of going out to DNS to find the next MX record for a host. This means all the bot-nets try to spam your server, fail, and go away.

They apparently saw a 90% decrease in spam coming in by doing this and I can't see them lying since we already bought their stuff. :) The downside is that this may delay your incoming mail depending on the settings of the sending MTA.

  5. I used a flower pot... on DirecTV in an Apartment? · · Score: 1

Got a large one, about 18 inches wide and deep. stuck a steel pipe in it and filled it about half-way with quick-crete. You have to make sure it's in level and straight. We then put topsoil in it, and planted some flowers so it wasn't so tacky. Set it up on the porch and the apartment can't say a word. It's heavy enough that it went through a numerous Florida summers (severe thunderstorms almost daily) without flipping over once. Also doesn't modify their building so they are happy.

but there are a lot of good programers (and many bad ones too I suppose) who are looking for work. Really!? I don't know of any. In fact, I know of companies that looked for people and couldn't find them, right here in Silicon Valley

Actually, I worked for a large telecomunications company who, one day, let all of their contract employees go, including myself. Some of these people were VERY good coders who had crucial knowledge regarding their current and future products. By losing these people, they pretty much shot themselves in the foot.

It is another example of the people in management being out of touch with their workforce. The middle management had no idea this was coming down the pike and had no say over who was cut. They let go some very good and knowledgable people that day (and more a month or so later).

There ARE many good coders out of work. Some of the people I worked with had 10-15 years of experience working for leading edge companies with great experience. They have not had any solid leads since we were let go in June. Granted, I know the southwest is a little worse off than other areas, but it is pathetic right now.

I don't think you got it. The efect does not need to "locate" anything. It works 360 degrees. If you are looking at my front and I am wearing this suit, the suit displays the light intensity and color from behind me on the front of the suit. likewise for someone behind me. They see the light color and intensity from the front of me. The real problem would be it's effective range and location. It would be extremely difficult to see someone in one of these 50ft from you in the jungle. It would be pretty easy, I would think, to see someone 10 ft from you in the city.
