I agree. Many is the day that I go back to a bookmarked reference, just to find a 404 page instead. I kinda wonder how many times we end up re-inventing the wheel because of it. Or, in most cases I come across, waste hours troubleshooting a problem that has already been solved.

I ended up making local (digital or paper) copies of most important stuff I come across. You would be suprised how many Win 3.x questions we stil get and hard it is to find good answers.

I know what you mean. But I have an addition reason for quality problems.

In the case of the ISP I work for, we have no machines, no budget, no software, and none of us are "Trained" help desk personal. We were all sysadmins who were demoted when the boss decided that we could take support phone calls as we worked on maintaining the servers. It increased his income, but caused customers to get a group of people who are very tech savy, but not good at explaining how to fix problems to others or had no tolerance for "stupid people" and little time using home or M$ OSes. Factor in no budget for training or new software (we still don't have a machine with XP installed) and VERY long hours (60+) due to staff loss (we are all interviewing but tech jobs in the area are hard to come by) and you get a very disgrunted staff that at times could really care. A number of the companies I have interviewed with have the same problem with people answering 1st level calls who belong high up and get a bad attitude because of it. Sorry if I am crying in my beer, but sometimes the techs have it just as bad as you.

As for canceling, if you call our billing department, they don't always cancel on the first call. IF you call tech, we cancel right away and have never told anyone that they didn't have a good reason for canceling. My personal favs were "Your service doesn't have enough puppies on it." and "You guys suck."

Either that, or the depth of sediment and marine growth on the structures. I remember reading somewhere about Bob Ballard using a similar method in dating shipwrecks. Of cource those were mostly less than 500 years old.
