The quality is horrible. I think it's interesting that it's pretty hard to find free good quality commercials online... there used to be some nice free advertisement sites but I think they're all subscription services now. You'd think companies would love to make commercials free for download, especially if someone's looking for it... Instead, it's hard to find commercials you want, and hard to avoid commercials you don't want. It doesn't seem to make sense....

  3. Re:...a great book if you haven't read it. on Google Betas Google Print · · Score: 1

Remember, God didn't fax the bible to mankind...it was written by a bunch of men wanting to control the masses.

The bible is a collection of writings from 40 different authors... now, these authors lived in different eras spanning some 1500 years, as well as in different areas all over the middle east, and in different languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek). It is inaccurate to say that these men wanted to control the masses. What future men did in, for example, the Catholic church may be different, but that was most likely not the intent of the original writers.

Actually, there were a lot more writings about Jesus and Christianity (that still exist) but in the canonization of the Bible, the Catholic church decided to leave out anything they were unsure about -- or perhaps were biased against. These texts can still be found, however, so if you are unsure about the current canonization, well, they're there.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that thought that the Bible was written by people who just wanted to control the masses was, while a common belief (perhaps because a couple of the authors were kings -- but remember, most were not), is probably inaccurate.

I have to agree completely. I read the manga first, and when I saw the anime, I was severely disappointed (I thought it was crap). However, many people I talked to about the anime said it was really good, so I guess that's just how much better the manga really is (IMO, of course).

i think irate is great by the way, although there's certainly room for improvement (p2p support, perhaps, as well as integration with an external media player). maybe when i have time i'll sit down and (attempt to) throw something together... (hopefully someone will have done it by then, and i can just download it. =P)

I think that "keeping the center of gravity above a certain level" was meant to have the simulation walk upright, as opposed to crawling or something similar. Some aspects of evolution seem to make good sense, and I don't see why a creator wouldn't use it as a mechanism for creation. If God created the universe with all its rules, why would he break them right away? I think it makes sense that he would use natural means to bring things about (although since we don't understand the universe completely, some things may seem unnatural).

  17. Re:Pretty common scenario on Filesharing Traffic Drops After RIAA Threats · · Score: 1

I'm a Christian. This means a lot of things, but it's also misunderstood a lot, even to many Christians themselves. Some common misconceptions are that you can earn your way into heaven; or that although miracles used to occur often, they don't anymore; or that Christianity and science, by default, don't mix.

The first two don't really have much bearing on this thread, but the last one does, since most of the comments here address creationism and evolution, and you can almost see a thick wall between what most people assume are mutually exclusive scenarios.

Here is something that both sides might want to consider: If God created the universe, and the rules that govern it, it would seem to make sense that when he does things, he would do them through the natural mechanisms that he created. Why make rules if you aren't going to follow them? So wouldn't it be possible that evolution was the natural mechanism that God used to create all the life on Earth? I'm not saying that this is what happened, but the fact is that as humans, we don't know everything. Keeping an open mind lets us find ideas to test and refine, which leads to the truth. The Bible doesn't teach us to have blind faith -- it teaches us to have faith . And knowledge of the truth strengthens faith.

By the way, regarding the drop in file sharing... people have already mentioned a lot of plausible reasons (vacation (summer), freenet, etc... oh yeah, and lawsuits). If we could see the usage statistics over the past few years, we might have better insight as to the reason for the drop (especially if they included statistics for many networks). www.redshiftresearch.com might have something useful, but you'd have to e-mail them to request data... does anyone know of anything better?
