I think it would not be to harsh to require a liscence to use the internet, not a money thing, do it like the ham radio liscences you take a test to prove you aren't gonna download a virus then they give you a liscence. It can be basic like knowing that there are files, knwoing the internet speed is not the same as the computer speed, knowing that not everything you see on the internet is real (viagra ads, etc)

but of cource they will probably charge an arm and a leg for the liscence make the test very very unreasonably hard, make you renew it every year, and use it to track who is who on the net. but onm the plus you might be able to doa screenname liscence tie in and a screen name registree (anonymouse even?) and resolve who egts what screen name disputes (Bob_13 on slashdot may not be the same Bob_13 on linuxquestions, etc.)

I do support bush for many reasons, and will continue to support him. Honsetly I like the libertarian party for the most part, however I have a big problem with a lot of the aclu and the libertarian party seems to have good ties with it (I am all for seperation of church and state, but the aclu is whacked on how far they will go) I am for choice, this includes the choice to eather say or not say under God int he pledge of alegiance, they want to remove that choice, currently it is in there, if you want to say it you can, if you don't want to say it don't, removing it removes the choice. however leaving it in also diminishes choice. the ultimate solution would be leaving the space blank and saying whatever you want when it comes around. there are other issues to, but of cource all are as complicated or more so than my solution. And I admit I am a right wing nut job -(jibjab.com) bush is to liberal for me, there I said it. and before peopel accuse me of being wealthy or well made I will say this, I make $11 an hour 20 hours or less a week paying my own way through college to go into software development age: 21 parents: middle-class unable to help me with my expences because of strain. but I do not want the government to say oh your having a hard ime, here have some money we just took from the rich... I will earn my own way damnit, and everyone else can to. if you are really really bad off and realy truly need help than I am all for it, but not financial help, iving peopel money will not solve their problems, giving people help so they can learn to earn their own money will. Bush seemed to have a clear grasp of the finer details in each problem, adn in many cases suggested valid solutions or spoke of valid solutions already in the works. Kerry seemed to want to have the government try to solve all the problems, Bush seemed to think that the government should provide the tools so that people could solve their own problems, and of cource the problems on the internet can't be solved, only amplified by government intervention. (I also liked when he said protecting children from pornography was primarily the parents job, cause it is.) However I found both candidates were complete morons on intellectual property, there stance on the myth of intellectual property is liek praying to Zeus in modern times. its silly. And as for weather or not they were the ones actually speaking, does it matter? If Kerry and Bush have good advisers writing good things, then as long as they follow their advisors advice what is the problem? a president has so much to do that no president can possibly know everything on every issue all the time, he would need refresher information and advisors to consult with. Trying to manage every issue is like trying to learn everything of every science. That said, I support Bush, the republican party philosophy of smaller government and less government interferrance is better for the internet, to bad they don't stick with that on the internet do to corperate IP concerns, but the democratic party isn't any better at that. I think the green party is the only group with any sence on the digital/computer issues, specifically IP. To bad I don't liek their other views. -Yeah I know I am gonna get reamed as a Bush supporter on this forum, but I am not gonna let intimidation prevent me from my right to free speach :-D

I did not mean to say I think they should go to india, I am not 100% against it, though I am not for it eather, I figure people have rights, if a company wants to move it's jobs overseas thats the companies choice and I do not intend to tak eit away from them, those who do not liek the jobs being moved can protest, though I feel protests are just an annoyance and accomplish little aside from instilling hatred. or you can boycott the company and it's products including the companies that use them, if nobody buys the producs then the company will die and companies not moving overseas will get the business.

now to lay out my main points:

    1) There are people being affected in negative ways by the jobs moving overseas, but trying to solve the problem by reducing freedom and rights weather to indaviduals or companies is a good example of a bad idea. The government screws everything up, keep the government out of it.

    2) The jobs being moved overseas are being moved because we expect to be paid to much for the lower level jobs.

    3) Open source projects on your resume can be as good as any programming job, you can outline what you wrote, how you worked with a team of developers and what experiances you have because of it. As well if you manage a successful project on sourceforge you can score bonus resume points for leadership and responsibility in project management.

    another way to put #1
bitching to the government to solve your problems is a waste of time, you should bitch to the government to stay out of it and leave you to solve your own problems, the solution will be a lot better. Government help should be available only in ammounts required to allow you to help yourself, and only to people that actually need it.

oh and taking from people who don't need help to give to those that do will not help the ones that need help all that much and it will create more people that need help, this is hwo the government got us where we are today.

Quite frankly I think that job is worth what is being paid in india, getting even $20 an hour for it hear seems a bit extream to me, you write a small function with some code any one with a grasp of syntax can write. However the important jobs, the programming of the majior logic of new and unique programs cannot be sent to india, you would not get what you want, primarily because everyone over there will be used to the drone work, but also because a lot of this kind of work requires you be here were it is needed. there is a difference between using a language and programming, I know plenty of people that can write a program to specific parameter outlines, but when it comes to developing something or making something unique, or God forbid the ultimate taboo of needing to figure something out instead of using a set of parameters (a function that takes this and returns this) So I think all the people in it for money instead of a genuine love for and understanding of programming will loose there jobs, and I say good damn it, then the people who have intellignece enough for inovation can get the recognition they deserve and programming will not simply be seen as this drone work that I put on level with janitorial service. this is all IMHO of cource :-P
