On the upside, with Microsoft being in their "security code freeze", Miguel might be able to catch up (if he hurries). It may take a while to fix that mess of theirs..

Linux won't be a better operating system if more people use it, directly no. Indirectly yes Linux will be a better operating system, because more mainstream acceptance means more support and application development (commercial or otherwise).

No flame intented, but what kind of elitest attitude is that? Linux is never going to gain mainstream acceptance by the average 'Aunt Tillie' until she can upgrade/install things easily. Given that most 'Aunt Tillie' types can barely do it on their Windows systems, Linux needs to be making every effort to become extremely user friendly. Deciding for someone else what they should be able to do easily sounds ridiculous to me...

Just for the record, Apple didn't design the GUI. People at Xerox innovated/designed it. Apple was the first to implement it.

  5. "IT Students" wasn't defined on Perception of Linux Among IT Undergrads · · Score: 1

The article is already /.ed so I couldn't read it.

I have seen a lot of bashing taking place in the forums, and I take exception to it as an undergrad CS student. My school offers no courses in VB, and I have actually never used it (I have seen the code though, and understand why it maybe appropriate for prototyping - I still wouldnt use it though).

Likewise, my school generally uses VA products, although we generally can submit code that was developed on any platform (with some restrictions obviously).

In short, I don't know how "IT Students" was generalized, but it clearly doewn't apply across the board.
