  1. Re:Oh Boy! on Life on Mars? Why Not? · · Score: 1

There is absoultely no basis for this statement. The organisms here on earth evolved together and are specialized in certain areas. An organism found on Mars would probably not be able to begin attacking our immune system, for example, because it would not 'know' where to begin. The SARS virii do have this information, however, and are taking full advantage of it.

My prediction: they will not find any life on Mars--past or present. I think that chances are a bit better on some of the moons orbiting Jupiter, or Saturn. It will be simple life forms that can hold up to extreme conditions, such as virii or bacteria.

While I truly believe that more complex life forms do exist outside of our solar system, the conditions needed to create and sustain such life are not as prevalent as we might hope for. The planets that have been discovered orbiting other stars thus far have not really been great prospects.

Why? Because it's Germany, damn it! Here in Germany, you have to register your televison and stereo systems. You then pay an annual fee for the luxury of not listening to the radio, or the luxury of not watching some of the worst tv programming the world has to see. Here in Germany, they want to tax the cheap airlines. Why? They need to make it less attractive to those who would have otherwise used the train. The money that they collect from these taxes would be used to subsidise a failing rail system. Germany is probably the tax capitol of the world and it is getting worse everyday.

How in the world could it possibly take twelve hours to install SuSE? I guess if you were to try and install it on an 8088 with 4KB Ram it would be possible, but not on any modern machine. I have never had a problem installing SuSe and it was able to recognize hardware that Win NT could not find automatically. The Win XP install is better, by far, than the Win NT 4, or Win 2000 install, but SuSE had absolutely no problem recognizing my networkd cards, my sound card, my graphics card, my DVD, my CD Burner, my Brother 1240 laser printer, or any other hardware I may have forgotten. With a few clicks, I had my internet access up (DSL), my internal routing and anything else that I need. This is with SuSE 7.3, although, my installs of 7.0, 7.1 and 7.2 went jsut as smoothly. You have posted simply more FUD. BTW, the Linux installed required about 30 minutes off the DVD, and I installed over 500 packages of software. XP does not come close. What I really thought cute was the install of Redmond Linux. Playing Solitaire before the OS is even installed made me laugh thinking about how far MS still has to go with their install routine.
