Most people really wouldn't know what to do
with broadband access once they have it.

Don't get me wrong. I love my cable modem. I use it to MUD, to e-mail, to browse, and the do the whole Evercrack thing every so often.(Not too often these days.) I consider myself an average user. No, I don't go crazy on the warez sites, and no, I don't frequent anything where the average download is on the order of meg's. Beyond bringing down large sites by being a zombie in a DDOS attack, the best thing about having cable modem is the quick download of high-content web sites.(flash, plug-in's, etc.)

Oh well. mod me down if you must.

    Not quite true....
Early popes? Who are you talking about? Peter did not declare Christmas. Take a look into the history on the matter.

    1. Christmas was a direct response to the pagan holiday Saturnalius. Nothing more, nothing less.

    2. Herod, the big bad man who ordered the killing of children under the age of 2, died circa 4 B.C.(per succession calendars marking reigns of kings.) Given the decree came after the wisemen travelled a great distance, it is reasonable to think that the reason he chose the age of 2 is because that is how long the wisemen were travelling. Thus, the birth of Jesus is estimated between 6 and 7 B.C. Oh, and given the shepherds reacted quickly, and were out tending the flock, the birth was most likely in the spring time, not the dead of winter.

Have a nice day, drive through.

  9. Isn't this a good thing? on Linux On the Desktop: 0.24 Percent? · · Score: 1

Home-use personal computers are a loss-leading engine for the likes of Microsoft and Apple. The reason they gave computers to schools(Apple) and are trying to give computers as payment(Microsoft) is to establish mindshare. In turn, this is supposed to bleed into the now-grown student's choice of OS software within their business environment. Given that most companies now have a policy regarding what OS is chosen, this effect is dampened. Furthermore, Linux owns from 27% of the share of servers out in the wild blue yonder(independent resources) to 9% of the share of web servers(MS funded research). Either way, the disproportion ranges from 37 to 115 times the proportionate rate, going from home use to server determination. Maybe I'm missing something, but the reality that Linux is receiving a disproportionate mindshare from the servers in the workplace is something to celebrate, not deny.
