Well then!:) In Holland, often the budgets for stuff like this is too small to do anything significant so I think it's nice that they found a serious sponsor for once and get some attention. Besides, it's a good subject. I can't wait for electric vehicles to become a regular phenomena.. Never gonna buy a car or motorcycle on gas again.
If you watch the races and follow the endless preparations you'll see that it's not just high tech vs high tech. It's just as much about creativity, timing, endless preparation, testing, determination, planning, blood sweat and tear and plain ol' elbow grease.
Home computers were only just there; the ZX Spectrum was introduced in 1982, the Commodore 64 in '83. Personal computers existed since 1975 but were way too expensive for most. There were only about 200 Apple II's (1976) sold. The original Macintosh from '84 costed $2.500, a lot of money in the eighties.
Sure, sales took off in '84 but for programmers to spawn it takes time to learn to work with computers and to program. In 1984, personal computers just started to spread among the population, from *zero*. All together, if you leave out home computer programmers, I think there were very little programmers around in 1984 compared to now and most of them were just leaving the punch card era. The remaining programmers worked with VAX alike computers that didn't use color, mice or sound.
Sure, but the article is about 'unfriending' and finding out why unfriended you and why. If the spouse didn't notice it's the new lover that is allowed as a 'friend', it's unlikely that this spouse will know who this person is. So if this new lover unfriends the spouse, not much will become clear.
You have a point that this is a possible, even commonly used strategy. For example, there is a old guy who hates my guts. I'm fairly sure we follows me on youTube, because I have posted a video of him flying way to low over our house. Then again, it's still unlikely that he will ever 'unfollow' me.
Flash is not that 'closed'. Anyone may generated.swf files without paying Adobe. They are not very popular but alternatives exist. I remember a certain Ming project http://www.libming.org/
Facebook is the next bubble. There is just too much money investors are trying to put away. FB seems a good bet for them. There will be more FBs in the near future.
The human eye is not fantastic, compared to some animals, but even out of focus movements in the corner of your eye are impossible to miss. Seriously, try it.
You can focus soon enough once you have noticed the movement. It's not necessary to have the whole picture in focus, the center will do.
About war: You are right that there might not be war all the time, but you never know when an enemy might strike. Just one successful hit with a rock or bite from a snake you didn't see coming, can kill you. Maybe you only need that safety belt only once in your life, it can still make a 100% difference in your time-path between you reaching 85 or you getting smashed into your own dashboard at 25.
Because in a primitive, hostile environment, the main thing is to see the enemy / victim coming. That's one of the reasons why people keep watching anything that moves above static parts. That it also changes color.. well.. big deal. Noticing it moving is much more important.
I was at a friends house last weekend and he demonstrated his new Vaio laptop, which responded exactly like the apparatus in this video. Only it used the webcam, I guess.
Like in the video, it doesn't work flawlessly, you easily gesture to fast for it.
Haha, no it won't but I mend that their total and epic failure to control the region, in line with so many others, was impossible to ignore. And still the US (and other NATO countries that get dragged along) just keep desperately starting wars.
BTW
I've BEEN to Cuba and it's a very, very poor and in many ways crippled, though beautiful country.
Interesting, I guess we agree then, it's the US that keeps pushing other countries (via NATO and otherwise) to send military on 'peace' missions.
The last Dutch government fell over supporting the Afghanistan mission for even x more years. Because the Dutch and many others don't believe in forcing peace in such a way. The Russions tried it for years and warned us all at forehand.
Before calling Europe a freerider, consider if it wanted to ride along in the first place!
The US always just wants to 'protect' everybody so they can be in charge. They dragged Europe in the biggest financial crisis since the 1930's. They start wars every decade with bogus excuses, just so a few people can make a lot of money. Korea, Vietnam, Irak twice, etc.
So yes, we agree: Withdraw the US army. Not just now but permanently.
This suggests that drunk / otherwise lame drivers get caught and punished. Unfortunately, this is not true. For example, my hitter got away with a penalty of a few hundred euros. Quite a contrast with the € 85.000+ damage he made. Not to mention wrecking my back.
She'll find enough distractions without her cell phone, like you pointed out already, and therefore will still run you over.
I was run over by an old man. Perfect weather, within city limits. Didn't even break. Only got stopped by a big city bus he hit next. Claimed he didn't see me, standing still on the middle of the road on a bright yellow motorcycle, lights on
So don't think this phone jammer will make much of a difference.

Being Dutch, I feel a little proud that our tiny country has come so far in these races, between all those high-tech equipped teams :)

or should we conclude 'just as reliable'?
were there in 1984 anyway?

Agreed, but that's something you already know. You don't need the online tools from the article to figure it out.
.. doesn't 'friend' you on Facebook in the first place.

I'm sorry but I live in Europe and these fugures seem quite optimistic, to put it mildly. Do you have data to back this up?
Have it your way but I would bet on Google.
Darn! [skims the article] Wait a minute, I'm talking about page hits, not what investors think it's worth.
Come on, how many of those accounts are updated regularly? If they were all that active, FB would be Google.

You can't look at the email headers on an iPhone, the mail app has no option for it.

"Ending the web's dependence on Flash is a lot like ending dependence on foreign energy" Yeah. And we all know how well that is working out.
