The point about food actually does apply to vaccinations and medical treatment as well. There are many companies in the mix struggling in attempt to make generic and affordable treatments for people. When someone intervenes by buying treatments from a rich American pharmaceutical company like Pfizer and distributing them, the net result is that people get temporary treatment, and Pfizer becomes more dominant as their secrets are guarded by patents and teams of lawyers.

Welfare does not create independence, it creates welfare dependency. Maybe by not charging for listings on the site he is doing more for the poor than if he locked them out of the site and gave some of the proceeds to some organization in hopes they do good things with it.

As an example giving food to Somalia helps them eat, but it also drives local farmers out of business ensuring aid dependency will continue. In my opinion the guy who won a Nobel peace prize recently because realized that these people can start real businesses on micro loans smaller than $5 is the real hero. Instead of oppressing the poor with welfare he empowered them.

In the American Indian tribes that get the most welfare from the government tend to be the poorest and have the highest unemployment rates. Some Indian tribes have unemployment rates upwards of 40% compared to the national average of 4% despite having free collage, hiring preferences, and access to nearly all government research grants.

Welfare is no simple fix to end poverty like many liberals believe.

Yes, but at a time when most societies lived very near water floods were fairly common. You point while re-inforcing that not all species were on the ark, is a double edged sword becasue it also highlights the fact that the "great flood" might not actually have been created by the holy spirit at all and could have instead been attributed to a natural weather cycle.

  18. Micro vs Macro on Study Detects Recent Instance of Human Evolution · · Score: 4, Insightful
Even most Creationists conform to at least some kind of evolution (micro).

For example, if Adam & Eve were the only parents why are people so different?

How did all the animals fit on Noah's Ark? If there were just 2 of the animals (dogs for instance) why are they so different now?

What about humans on the Ark, were they forced to inbreed for a second time to populate?

Also, we may not have the ability to actually observe Macro Evolution, but Micro Evolution has been evident for some time now. We have documented proof that Americans have gotten taller for instance.

So when you have small changes over a small period of time, is believing that over a large period of time you could have large changes really that unreasonable?

"You don't cancel and fork projects to be compatible with MS-software on a daily basis."

When you have a milti-million dollar agreement to support your product as a virtualization platform you do. Patents and copyright are not the same thing.

Where did this even come from?

"MS "allowing" Novell to use their patents for the time being doesn't mean MS agreed to the GPL in any way, shape or form."

From the GPL: "For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must give the recipients all the rights that you have." (source: fsf)

Any special rights granted to Novell for adding office compatibility would be transfered to the recipient of the code. MS and Novell spent months hashing over the GPL before announcing this deal and MS rubber stamped it. If MS is unhappy with the fact that Novell releases under GPL it is a little late to complain about it now.

"And we all know OSS devs have limitless money to spend to fight MS. I guess in your mind everyone sued by the RIAA got what was coming to them, too."

Newsflash: Legal cases like this are rarely fought by hobbyist devs. In a legal attack on OO.o, MS would probably find themselves up against IBM, Sun, RH, the EU and probably judge Jackson.

And again, it was the fucking ruling of the courts that MS better document their office formats so that others could more easily implement them, how can you logically believe for a second the courts would let MS would get away with attacking someone in court for doing it in the first place??

Here is a secret: The patent portion of the deal was mostly about MS protecting themselves from Novell's portfolio, not the reverse.

    No, you don't understand.

First off Novell is not part of the agreement, the customers are. So if the mod is covered by MS technology, Novell is in violation for releasing it.

Lets say for arguments sake that the mod is covered my MS patents and Novell is excluded from liability. If MS agrees to allow Novell to release said technology under the terms of the GPL, they agree to accept those terms. This means that if OO.o adopts the patch, there is nothing MS can do about it as per the GPL.

Lastly, with all the trouble the EU is putting MS through with documenting their office formats, do you honestly believe MS would get away with dragging OO.o into court for supporting them? Your post is only proof that bias trumps logic.
