  1. Dell Relationships & Product Matrix Costs on Dell Calls For Red Hat To Lower Prices · · Score: 1

Dell is very careful to establish close relationships with their suppliers. This helps them control costs. Few things inflate costs more quickly than expanding the matrix of available OS offerings. Every new OS has to be completely tested for compatibility. The testing and development costs go crazy.

  2. Why doesn't it flip around like a pinwheel on Scuba-Doo Underwater Scooter · · Score: 1

It looks to me that the propulsion system is low and not running through the center of gravity. Why wouldn't it just keep trying to push you around in circles until you fell off the back? What happens with mass-challenged population? Like most geeks, I keep a fair amount of winter insulation, and while that may add bouyancy, it is still mass that has to be accounted for.

  3. What if they had these in the twin towers? on Skydiving Across the English Channel · · Score: 2, Interesting

How much velocity is necessary to start horizontal flight? I mean, what would have kept someone from strapping their glass desktop cover to their back and jumping outta the window?

  4. Hemophiliacs? on The Rights of GM Humans · · Score: 4, Interesting

How will the future consider children who may be cured by simple GM of diseases? My friend's son is a hemophiliac. A genetic modification could save him from an early death and a lifetime of pain. Would this change make him a GM freak? If so, are you saying that he should suffer this disease because God ordained it?

  5. Maybe They Just Suck on Salon, Nearly No Money and Ultramercials · · Score: 0

I still get Salon on my handheld thru Avantgo but I have to say, only about 3% of the articles really hit the mark. The rest are really offensive. In general, I wouldn't ascribe Salon's failure as a failure in the business model, but the content. I didn't see any Slashdot articles on the demise of Rosie's magazine.

They that can give up essential iberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
