  1. It's often the case where something is included into an application without the long view... If you are on a two week sprint, and need it done, including a functioning component is the easy answer. Two, or Three years later the person who made that selection is long gone. In this case it was the "worst-case-scenario", a library that was on the verge of being abandoned rescued by a nefarious helper. THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY...

  2. Authentication == Non Privacy on Google Secretly Logs Users Into Chrome Whenever They Log Into a Google Site (zdnet.com) · · Score: 1

Yes, I am removing the Chrome browser from all of my devices. I can't not login to Google because they currently host my email and other cloud presence. I figured that something was up because the login switcher has been acting erratically. I would have to clear cookies for the past (hour,4 hours, etc..) to switch between accounts. Several people have already noted that this move was just evil/greed. So, for the sake of .005% improvement on tracking accuracy and data quality they have really pissed me off. Disappointed, very disappointed.

  3. DMCA provides safe harbor... on Record Labels File 'Billion Dollar' Piracy Lawsuit Against ISP Cox (torrentfreak.com) · · Score: 3, Interesting

So, they love the DMCA (I believe that's part of this filing...). but, they hate the DMCA because "pass through" or "facilitators" are enabling theft. What most people don't realize is that for the past couple years all ISP's have been pushing IPv6 to the home. The addresses are static, and unless you are taking fairly drastic measures broadband users are not anonymous. With static IP addressing, I'm not sure what this complaint is about.

  4. Agreed... All you get is the "moment of fame" with your name listed as inventor..(or co-inventor) . I think my file at work said I received $1 for assigning the work to the company's IP bucket. (too many lawyers with too little to do). I've been careful to not mix "work for hire" on systems that contain my original ideas. (In this article) The thing that will need to be explained is how steganography got mixed into the data stream. (sorry, but that doesn't happen by accident.). DLP is some cool technology and it's here to stay. It's unfortunate that the technology is necessary, but it is getting easier to drop an appliance onto a span port and inspect everything (until the appliance learns what normal looks like). -- now if it would only help cool the planet
