  1. I more reason ... on Ogg Support For iTunes · · Score: 0, Redundant

Good, now there's one more reason to go Mac. Currently, the only reason I can see not to is the terrible argument about price ... You'll never get a full-fledged OS with the support of Win or OS X for the prices you could build a Linux box for. But guess what - the price is worth it. Completely. And the cost/benefit ratio is getting better all the time ...

Yeah, I just opened my G4/466 and checked it out (nice how we mac users can do this with one hand and keep typing with the other). It is the PCI chip. Apple isn't in competition with Intel, and there is more than one part on this motherboard made by Intel ...

Seriously folks, he quotes a G4/400 at $800. And over at Ars, they quote one at $1000. I don't know about anyone else, but I bought mine on eBay - UPGRADED - for about $750. Go to www.baucomcomputers.com and see for yourself!

This makes it more expensive to build your own, crappier version of a system that isn't that expensive to begin with. Unless you are a whiny Linux apologist.

Whew, watch this get modded to 0 in the blink of an eye!

A large segment of Mac users (i.e., people like Charles Moore of MacOpinion.comand LowEndMac.com) have abandoned MS altogether for Freeware or Shareware. Why would I use Office X for $459, when I can use OpenOffice or ThinkFree Office for nothing or very little? It isn't just Linux users who are proponents of "the little guy" developers, although some people seem elitist enough to think so. Give Macs a chance, and you'll see how similar the people behind them are to you...

  8. Re:In the server market? on Take a Mac User to Lunch · · Score: 1

Actually, Apple has been making servers for a long time. The newspaper I work for has been running one for the past 10 years. There were graphite G4 servers, Blue & White G3 servers, and so on all the way back to the Quadra/Performa/etc. eras. XServe is kind of an extension of that, just in a new 1U case (and much more powerful and versatile).

Oh, and for everyone who thinks it isn't worth running OS X on a G3 (there are many), it runs beautifully on my Pismo. Give it a try!

A sturdy well built 20 gig portable hard drive with rugged microphone inputs, real time level adjustments, choice of digital audio formats. It should record at digitally pure and rich CD and DVD level quality effortlessly and dependably. It should be little and indestructible. It should fold seamlessly into the computer through drag and drop compatible with major operating systems ... There is something like that - it's called the iPod! Everything you mentioned is a feature of the iPod (at least operating in OS X). For God's sake, who cares whether it records in MP3, WMA, or Vorbis. Doesn't matter. What matters is that it sounds damn good, and does what it is supposed to. My iPod has that down to a t.

Except for the fact that the new trademark decision only applies if the form has no basis in function - for example, a logo. The iPod's shape is directly related to the way the player is designed. By the way, the way the iPod is put together already has a patent pending, so the Gigabeat will need to be sandwiched together differently in order to get through that. Frankly, I think the iPod is a better choice, but that's because I use a Mac in OS X where it works beautifully. I feel bad for all of you who wish you had a G4 but are stuck with a P4 :)

Furthermore: How many of those people working at PC workstations in offices at this moment grew up using Windows in school? Almost none; there was no windows, or PC's for that matter. They had no trouble adjusting. Soudns like some people will think of anything to keep a good product down. I like Macs because of exactly what another poster said: they keep the OS out of the way. The reason they are typified as "easier" is because the MacOS doesn't get in the way of your work. It works with you, making it SEEM easier. What could be wrong with that?
