I find it interesting that the reviewer that argued the "pro" side used exerpts and citations to support the book. However, the reviewer that took the "con" side generally used personal attacks to denigrate the authors. I would think that it would be generally accepted in the scientific community that there are differences among the races just as there are among races of other species. Why is it that we readily accept sub-speciation of other species based soley on color but we can't accept it for humans?
Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering as some of your posts in this story/thread sounded rather (excuse the next term as it is probably a bit harsh) rabid against the religious.
And actually, I'll have to disagree with you concerning our general conversation. I do believe it's a parents perogative to require a child to do X. If they don't want to do X then they can find another roof to live under. (that's my political philosophy). Personally however, I wouldn't mind my children reading infidels.org with my knowledge (so that I could explain my POV, etc.)
[obOT] Children shouldn't have computers or TV's in their rooms anyways. Monitoring of their activities is a parents duty. [/obOT]
[snip] I'd argue that a parent does not have the right to indoctrinate their child in an attempt to bring the child's idealogies into conformance with their own. Some parents may attempt to do so, but this is certainly bad parenting, and exactly why education is indeed compulsory - at school a child can visit the school library, read textbooks, talk to people, and generally do things their parents may not approve of.
Based on your other postings I'm wondering that if your child chose to follow a fundimentalist Baptist philosophy if you would not attempt to indoctrinate them in your beliefs. (which I may be wrongly assuming are probably atheistic).
And unfortunately, this is from my brother who's a Lutheran Pastor (ELCA unfortunately). He's way too damn liberal for me and I wish he would just stick to AD. (Ano Domini I belive (sp?))
Here's a hack I had to use the other day for updating a record for a client. Use Outlook Express from Macrosloth (personally I use Pine and Eudora) and set the "from" address to be from the authorized mail from address and the reply to field to the new address (so you'll get all emails generated by the update). Then just open up one of your mail servers for relaying and send it through.
And fortunately the current Supreme Court is getting better about realizing that the constitution does count. Despite some folks bitching and whining about Thomas and Scalia they're about as libertarian as can be found in recent (50) years on the court. I just hope that Bush (G.W.) can find somebody as libertarian as them when he gets his chance.
As the subject states, one of my servers gets 600-1000 hits/min on a regular basis. (meaning all damn day). 99% of those hits requires at least 1 MySQL query also and about 30% require at least 2 inserts. This server also does quite a bit of background processing also but is still extremely fast for a dual p2/400.
This is exactly why I prefer stocks like Cisco that actually make something. Software (in the broad sense) only companies like MS will take a tumble here in the near future as folks recognize that their actual worth isn't much. However hardware (again, in the broad sense) companies like Cisco, Ford or IBM actually make something which can be said to have X value. Raw materials+labor instead of just labor which is always relative.
I seem to recall that it was SubLogic that produced JET. Yeah, it was a killer game in it's day and one of the first ones that I copied (along with King's Quest 1).
I guess I started down the warez road early considering I had a box of floppies filled with games from a friend even before the computer made it home from the store. Damn those dual 360k floppy drives were convient!
He was talking about back in the early 80's when you had a choice of MGA (IBM Monochrome Graphics Adapter) or a Herc Mono card. If I remember correctly the Herc went up to 720x480. Likewise there existed a utility called SimCGA which did exactly that on MGA and Herc cards.
I actually traded my CGA monitor to a chick for her mono monitor so I could go back to running in Herc mode as I preferred the higher resolution to a crappy four colors.
BTW, anybody know what ever happened to Vega? It was interesting running my Vega VGA card with Windoze 3.0 on my old V20 with 640k! Slow as shit but a far cry from Windoze 1.0.
After working closely with many folks in the military intel circles (played with nukes) I must say that "normal" people would view them with a raised eye. Most folks in the intel and nuke fields are wierd beyond belief and most "normal" people would die if they saw some of the things we did.
Personally, I used to wear bright red suspenders with CCCP and a hammer & scicle & star on them under my BDU's. I always had fun running around without the blouse on!:)
By LIKE I was refering to full substring matching using LIKE "%foo%". "foo%" will use the index but "%foo%" won't and on my server running 4 %% types would bring it to a crawl. I finally had to go with exporting the table to a flat file after updates and use an awk script to search. It can handle 40 concurrent searches with awk.
Personally, I designed and currently admin a site that gets about 1 mil hits/day. Over a weeks time it averages about 50 queries/second with peaks at 500 queries/sec. The setup is dual p2/400's with 512 megs ECC (soon to be a gig) and the db's on a lvd scsi drive. The db's run a total of 2 gigs. There's typically 50 apache processes running at a time.
As for optimization, definately check your queries and always use keyed fields and == queries. Doing like queries will kill your performance to being unusable on decently large tables (>100k records). Definately read the MySQL docs concerning RAM usage and the various switches to optimize it's RAM usage. That is extremely important.
As for Apache, don't use.htaccess at all costs and only compile in required modules. Also check the tuning FAQ mentioned above.
I'm a Republican/Libertarian (I lean more to Libertarian) and I run a pr0n site. Anything wrong with that? I'm also a conservative Lutheran with quite a few pastors in my family.
Java is a real, general purpose programming language. PHP code won't do you much good if you want to migrate your work to some other, non HTML environment.
Not true by any stretch. I do quite a bit of my mysql db maintenance scripts/code in php and just run it via the command line version (for cgi instalations). The apache compiled version along with the cgi implementation do wonders for both realms.
Granted, I wouldn't classify it as a GP language, but it's damn close to the extent that I often have to decide between it and perl. Would I use either for writing a full and local app with UI? Probably not. But on the server it's handy as hell.
This technique definately reminds me of my old VAX days in Germany; we had a couple of 11/785's (nice steel cabinets) clustered together. When one would start flaking out we would shut it down and kick the shit out of the sides with our boots. Did wonders about 90% of the time.

Generally speaking when Anglicizing words K's are replaced with C's. Stupid, I know but English is a pretty stupid and difficult language.

Although piiq.com aims to make things easier to find on the web, that's something
we won't be able to help you with.
