  1. Who knows more? on Life in the Trenches: a Sysadmin Speaks · · Score: 0, Flamebait

After reading the replies, I can say one thing with certainty. Every sysadmin knows more than every other sysadmin. BTW take the personality test, it's fast, and pretty cool. (ISTP)

While you may not agree with the ideology of the man, he does make valid points. Many of his arguments cross party lines. Speaking as an Independent (Liberterian leaning) I see myself as someone who agrees, our country has already gone too far down this path. I don't think there is anyway to recover from it. Just hope that enough independent, intelligent, socially responsible people remain to balance out the ignorant masses.

  3. AOL on eBay Customers Targetted by Credit Card Scam · · Score: 1

Obviously this sort of thing isn't indemic to EBay. AOL has huge problems with people trying to steal their customers credit card info. I'm sure it happens with many companies. The moral is most people seem to be dumb as sheep.

  4. AOL and Linux? on AOL's new Linux PC · · Score: 3, Interesting

Why would a Linux user want to use AOL? Most if not all desktop linux users are way more proficient than that. I shudder to think of the help desk they would have to set up for Linus/AOL PC users.

  5. This is making a story where there really is none. on Disconnecting · · Score: 1

I've never used earthlink, so I can't comment on them, however I have a lot of experience with AOL. I work for a telemarketing company as a sys admin/programmer whose largest client is AOL. You can just go to keyword cancel to get the cancellation number, I just did it in one try. In my experience, people who complain about telemarketers, are people who let themselves get taken for a ride. Generally if you take control of the call right away you won't have a problem. Also, you need to remember that a lot of the people you are going to talk to are college kids who have no link to the company you're calling other than an easy paycheck. They have people yelling at them all day long, and just like anyone else get irritable. This is not an excuse, I believe if you are going to do a job (whether it's diiging ditches, or physics) you should do it well. But people being what they are, bad telemarketing calls, and poor phone menus shouldn't be a surprise anymore.
