There are acceleration and deceleration zones at the beginning and end of the travelator, and the transition is very tricky at first: you have to keep both feet on the ground and NOT try to walk from one zone to the other, otherwise you're 100% sure to fall down.
They had some serious trouble during the first days, people kept trying to walk in those zones and there were a fair number of broken legs and waistbones...
