This patch broke the auth for some of my web-based software packages:-(
We had the need to use.htaccess auth instead of cookie auth, but since the software is heavily used on public terminals we also have the need for a functional [LOGOUT] button.
My logout button would direct the user to a seperatly.htaccess protected folder, with the same ID as the actual software, but with a new username of 'please_enter_your_email'
This caused IE to 'forget' it's previous auth information and store the new one.
Then, if somebody tried to use the back button on a public terminal to re-enter the software, they would get the auth box. (unlike with cookies, where the cached page may still appear, because ie6 likes to ignore no-cache directives)
But now, as users patch their systems, my logout button will be broken and give an 'invalid syntax' error.
Is there some other way to force the IE browser to forget browser auth information?
Your cable network will NEVER support descrambling of digital channels, and pay channels on your PC:-( But, with the TIVO DirecTV tuner, you can record all channels. The PC PVR market will never be serious until we can record Six Feet Under, Sex in the City and Queer as Folk off the pay channels when we're not home!
The majority of my income comes from online sales. A credit card charge is not valid without a legal signature. Nobody, as of yet, has found a way to legitimize internet trasnactions. Anybody who uses their credit card on the net can cancel their charge, after they receive their merchandise, and the merchant cannot contest this "chargeback". Because they don't have a signature. This is why 20%+ of online business is considered fraud, because valid customers who receive thier merchandise get their money back from your bank automatically.
With the government and VISA/MC dragging their feet and seemingly not even searching for a solution to this problem (well other than hassling online merchants as if it were their fault) we need some way to verify that the card goes with the user... perhaps passport is a step in the right direction.
I will get behind anything that allows me to contest, with the cardholder's bank, a fraudlant refund(chargeback) requested by somebody who received their merchandise.
Well, its seems I have quite the dilemna. Should I buy FFXI on PS2 or PC?
Sitting in front of the computer feels too much like being at work... it will be nice to be able to play a MMORPG on the couch in the living room! That was the best part of Phantasy Star Online... Well the living room part and being able to design your own weird happy-faces...
