  1. Its a stereotype... on Ask Slashdot: Geeks Stereotypes and Their Origins · · Score: 1

I have been in many situations in which typical stereotypes do not fit...this is the case...we are people...we are different. There may be a common ground somewhere....but I have met individuals from all walks of life *yes Ive met redneck geeks that say "YeeHaw!" just too much for my personal tastes*.

My point being...stereotypes are simply what they are...what the public accepts as the role a group of individuals play in society. Its comical in a way...can anyone change these views...doubtful.

I classify myself as a "geek" but not a typical one...and yes...I do believe in God. (Some would call me a redneck...but I rarely say YeeHaw)

Listen to all the complaints...bah..I love it...just because its not the news with some boring anchor people get mad...bah. Keep up the good work.

  3. Get some help on Tracking Sourceless SPAM · · Score: 1

    *Sigh*

Ive had to deal with this lately...as hard as Ive tried to keep my email out of the hands of those who would use it to do me harm.

Fortunately I work for my ISP...so it makes for easy access to our maillogs and individuals of importance who can counteract such problems *if it becomes a pain to enough users we will filter the domain*.

I lodged complaints with the relay and used the contact information to make sure they knew I was unhappy about this *and of course to make it clear I would be causing them some grief*.

Its been a good week now and I havent been spammed *as it had been occuring on a day by day basis previously*.

So...when I say get some help...lodge complaints with your ISP and the relay...make yourself heard...most likely you are not the only one *the definition of spam* and hopefully your cries will be heard and offending domains dealt with.

Its not a fun process, but if it becomes clear these actions will not be tolerated all parties involved will shape up.

    Hope this helps..

  4. I thought we had it bad enough with existing EULA' on UCITA is passed · · Score: 1

Has anyone actually sat down and read existing EULA's...they already have supreme power and can basically rewrite the agreement whenever it suits them. ITS SCAREY NOW.

Now a bunch of lawyers and bureacrats want to give the software industry more power? Im getting shafted as it is...why give greedy corporations more power...if anything the end user needs more protection. Right now you can install a piece of software and if it eats the contents of your drives...so what..your fault for installing it?

Does anyone blame me for being scared.

I highly recommend it to all slashdotters...just please keep in mind...when the book was written...32 *or was it 64* meg memory chips were probably science fiction ;)

  6. A man to be admired. on Rasterman leaves RedHat · · Score: 1

Im honestly very proud of Raster. Not many people I know would quit thier job to stand up for what they believe in or to protect a project from corporate slime.

Personally I look forward to any enhancements Enlightenment can bring to an environment which has grown a bit stale.
