I imagine that at some point consumer accounts will get the same protection that business accounts get with positive pay features. Basically companies write all their checks then send their bank files with each check number and the amount of the check.
All they need is a web interface that does the same, then I can put in the information for the one check I end up having to write each month.
Good point. Although I wonder what the average leach to uploader ratio is. How many people have installed a p2p client and have no idea how to open a port on their little router at their house to enable uploading?
While I hope they succeed in eliminating this law for good, there is another side to this.
I think that congress is within its rights to set specific damages to things that are hard to place a value on. The OP says that damages should be 99 cents per song. How many people did that person share the song with? Does an average user share the song 1000 times?
I think another analogy would be that of the Do Not Call registry. There is a specifc dollar amount that you can claim as damages. This is because it is hard to place a value on the time and annoyance the average person was caused by the phone call. So they place a set amount on it.
Again, hope they suceed, but it isn't as cut and dry as we would all like to think.
First thing I would do is get away from the notion that you "need" your laptop. Taking that off your list will make you a LOT happier. There are Business Centers and Internet Cafe's all over the world. A gotomypc account and a USB drive should handle all of your situations. Seriously think about that one. Once you stop lugging that thing all around the world you will be so much happier.
Sure you might want to work on the airplane while you fly over the ocean. Print it out, bring a pen.
I am pretty sure the WB execs were smart enough to factor in PS3 sales and account for how many of them were bought for gaming only.
Don't dismiss the number of people that were thinking of a Blu Ray player, and thought they might as well spend a little more and get a PS3 at the same time.
This game is obviously on my must have list of games to buy. Don't get me wrong, Heavenly Sword was great, but thats come and gone.
What Sony really needs is more good games, not one blockbuster. My co-worker compares the PS3 to a sports car. Most of the time its sitting in the garage or somewhere collecting dust. Then every once in a while a fantastic game comes out and you get to take it out for a good drag-race.
To sell more PS3s Sony needs more than a killer game once every six months.
I heard the first version was more realistic with a 100 pound female that got the crap beat our of her time and time again by hordes of enemies but that the games were even shorter than the demo.
I don't think that the game would have been more realistic had she weighed more and put on more armor.
All five minutes of this demo were great. Loved the epic feel of the cinematography and choreography. Loved it.
This means we can finally start buying new Dell Servers again, instead of relying on ebay to obtain servers that had hard disks compatible with the stable release of debian. For the past two years, Dell had been phasing in new Sata drivers that sarge just refused to work with, but that etch has had no problems with. Hurray! Any chance of an upgrade path so we don't have to support both sarge AND etch?
You mean everybody should wait 6 months to a year until there is enough on supply so that you can go into a store and buy one?
So you can build more factories and increase the price per unit because in 6 months there will be less demand, or everyone can wait six months so that everyone gets a fair shot.
If it was up to me I would say sell them one at a time as they come off the end off the assembly line! This applies to the xbox and the wii as well. I want my wii now, not after stock has been built up!
Stock Market -- All Time Record High Unemployment -- Decreasing Month over month for the last year Wage -- The average wage has grown this year Inflation -- September Annual Inflation Rate down half of the annual inflation rate.
What indicators are you looking at?
Is it the indicator of I don't have a job or my neighbor doesn't have a job, or I am not making as much money as I am worth?
If by bubble you mean a time of ecenomic growth, then yes we are headed there.
The economy is on the upswing, and people (perhaps minus slashdotters) are generally optimistic.
It is very possible to have ecenomic growth without a hyperinflated economy resulting in the proverbial bubble. After the economic growth will be a time of economic slowing and finally a recession of the economy.
You can count on it, although unfortunately you can't set your watch by it. Timing of the whole thing is still not very precise.
If you are going to have a any sort of domain that may cause any kind of controversy the first thing you need is an acurate address. I have had a couple domains shut down because of this.
All it takes is one person who doesn't agree with you to report your domain name WHOIS information as inacurate!
We could do something where the word "may" means the person is permitted to do something, and the word "shall" means that the person must do something.
There is one major possibility that everybody is forgetting.
That is, that this movie could have quite possibly ended dead last without the Internet hype. I think the only reason they made anything at all was because of the hype.
I hope by no compelling reason, that you more specifically mean that there are no titles out yet that justify getting either format.
It doesn't take a video snob to notice the difference.
People who claim there is no difference simply have not seen the difference between DVD and a high-dev format. I don't mean pumping a DVD or cable into an HD T.V. and and stretching and zooming in on the picture. I mean actual HD programming from either an HD channel or a high dev movie format. The problem I think is people think because they have an HD T.V. that they are watching things in HD.
It is absolutely amazing--and not by a small amount. Those who say otherwise either haven't seen it, or can't afford it.
The issue with this article is that they are trying to find miniscule problems with the Blue Ray format. We don't even know if the issues are the player or not. In the end, both format have superiour quality when compared to DVD and there is no substantial difference in video quality between the two of them. So who is really going to win the "format wars"?
Whichever is cheaper and has more relavant titles.
So far McAfee is the only product I can find certied to run on Windows Server 2003 (64 bit). I would love to use something else, so please--someone tell me if I have missed something. I have heard and read anecdotal evidence that other smaller apps do work, but to cover myself it needs to be explicitly listed as a supported OS.
If truth be told, I think its silly to have to run anti virus software on a machine that nobody ever logs into and that is 2 firewalls away from the Internet, with no Internet access in or out--but such is life when we have credit card companies telling us how to secure out servers.

Did you read the question? Just curious...

Meh, had some Karma to burn.. why not..

HAM radio operators everywhere are scrambling to stop this virtual power line from space.

Well, we invested a lot of money and resources to get the product written so that we could make money from it.
If we publish it and another companies takes it and uses it to make a competing product we will make less money.
Do we need another reason?
I heard the first version was more realistic with a 100 pound female that got the crap beat our of her time and time again by hordes of enemies but that the games were even shorter than the demo.

Seriously, this is very good news for us.

Where is TFA? I would actually like to read this one, or did slashdot turn into self service over the weekend?
- Sony has never won a format war, haven't they learned their lesson? Just look at Beta and MD.
- Sony has had great sucess with their formats, can you say CD?
- There is no reason for anybody to even upgrade past DVD. There is simply no big difference between any new formats and DVD
- I simply will not buy anything from Sony after the whole DRM fiasco
- HD will win out because there will be more HD players on the market because of the cheap HD DVD add on for the Xbox 360
- There will be more Blue Ray players on the market because every PS3 comes with a Blue Ray drive
- Nobody will buy the HD DVD drive addon for the Xbox 360 because it is too expensive
- Nobody will buy the PS3 because it is too expensive
- Blue Ray disks hold more information than HD DVD disks and so Blue Ray will win
- HD DVD disks hold more information than Blue Ray disks so HD DVD will win
- What are you guys talking about? Its all about Nintendo
- Neither format will win because people will be downloading movies from here on our
- The name HD DVD just sounds better than Blue Ray
- The name Blue Ray just sounds better than HD DVD
- Movies these days are worthless I havent watched a movie in 25 years
Hopes this helps shed some light on which format is better.Ok, but would you wait in line for $2,000 cash?
Why?
Factories can only produce so many per month.
You mean everybody should wait 6 months to a year until there is enough on supply so that you can go into a store and buy one?
So you can build more factories and increase the price per unit because in 6 months there will be less demand, or everyone can wait six months so that everyone gets a fair shot.
