Hell, the military has it's own morbid sense of humour about such things. They call the escape hatches "Mother Hatches", supposedly because only their Mom's believe they can escape from them.

K5 is NOT a /. haters site, if anything it's a compliment to it. /. and K5 together make for a very powerful source of news and views. And BECAUSE of their different structures you get two different faces. K5 is what it says "Technology and Culture, from the Trenches" whereas Slashdot is "News for Nerds, Stuff that Matters". K5 is SUPPOSE to be a bit rougher and raw, this is what makes it different, and is not a valid reason for beating up on it. I apologize if this comes out wrong, it just gave me the impression of the school bully picking on the new kid. And for the same reason that the bully picks on the new kid, it came across that maybe /. was getting "worried". It smacked of corpratism, and take note that I am NOT a /. "Big Bad Corp. They sold out" person. But how many times do you see the NYT go " and the Washinginton Post's editoral comments were the usual NYT sucks varity" now granted, it's different worlds, and maybe sometimes they do say something along those lines, but it looks very unprofessional and frankly not very friendly. Mentioning K5 is great, but the tone was very "put offing", specially considering how much slashdot is mentioned on K5 in favourable light, and almost NEVER by a article is it mentioned unfavourable.

This argument, too, has already been disproven. A COMMERCIAL distrubution CANNOT satisfy Section 3 of the GPL simply by linking to GNU's website. The GPL says this EXPLICITLY in Section 3(c):

Accompany it with the information you received as to the offer to distribute corresponding source code. (This alternative is allowed only for noncommercial distribution and only if you received the program in object code or executable form with such an offer, in accord with Subsection b above.) ( bold is mine )

They need to use sections 3(a) and 3(b) which to paraphrase state:

3a. Put the source code in the distrubution
3b. Make a written offer, good for a min. of 3 years saying you'll give them the source code, at a price no more then it takes to distribute, in a way commonly used for software interchange.

Linking to gnu.org's website falls under 3(c), which is invalid for them, putting source on their site follows 3(b) which is what they need to do. Specially since there is no gaurentee that they have not tampered with source code.

    It's a common misconception.
