  1. Good Tech for an Universal Remote on The Optimus Mini Keyboard · · Score: 1

Image this technology for an universal remote control. Touchscreen remote controls are flexible, but lack the tactile feel. With touchscreens, you cannot "feel" your way across the remote. With this technology, you could build a remote with real buttons whose labels change depending on the device you are controlling.

  2. Check out the Motorola MPx200 on Mobile Phones that Sync w/ PIM Software? · · Score: 1

The Motorola MPx200 is a phone to consider. Everyone where I work is getting them.

Ok, so it is a Windoze phone. Once you get past that fact, it is actually pretty cool. Small form factor, and syncs with Outlook. You can have all of your Outlook contacts and your calendar stored in the phone. In addition to that it has MP3/WMA player and a SD slot for extra storage.

  3. Look at Niku 6 on Enterprise Grade Project Management Tools? · · Score: 1

You start out asking for MS Project replacements due to scalability issue, but then you state that you are only considering what appear to be Linux-based solutions. Are you in search of an enterprise-class tool, or a Linux tool? As far as I know, there isn't anything that meet both criteria.

That said, we are a Fortune 100 and we use Niku 6 to track our projects. Niku Workbench (formally known as Project Workbench) is their scheduling tool. It is a little different than MS Project, but the learning curve isn't that bad.

The advantageous of such a suite is that all of the project plans are stored in a central repository allowing consolidated reporting and web-based time entry.

Hope this helps. (Oh, if you do find an enterprise-class Linux project management system, please post it here because I would love to look at it.)

  4. Zaurus + Socket WiFi Card = no workie for sniffing on Good PDA Wi-Fi Signal Strength Locator? · · Score: 1

The Zaurus SL-5500 is awesome. Being worried about battery life, I opted to purchase the Socket brand low power CF WiFi Card. The card works great for "normal" usage. It does not work with Kismet or Discoverer (or I could not get it to work).

  5. Re:Router? on Digeo To Ship Full-Featured Linux-based PVR · · Score: 1

There is a fair amount of horsepower in this thing. Adding a routing feature is basically zero impact on performance. So it become a value-add, one more reason to buy the box. If you have cable Internet, then the Cable-Company-Supplied-PVR plus WiFi makes for an easy way for the cable provider to get you on the 'Net. The device is also positioned nicly to be a gateway for listening to Internet radio stations. So, in short, the answer is "Marketing". --Andy

  6. HIPAA on Polarized Screens to Hide Sensitive Data · · Score: 1

Can anyone say HIPAA compliance... There is a section of HIPAA that specifies the safegarding of information being displayed on screen in places like clinics and hospitals. The concern is that this information can be overseen by people walking past the user's monitor.
