  1. Holocaust on Star Wars: Galaxies Preview · · Score: 1

So, here's the scenario, how do they stop someone from taking control of a death star and destroying an entire planet with millions of dollars(EBAY dollars) worth of characters.

I would be pissed if I flunked out of school playing this game to only discover that my character was destroyed by a psycho with a death star!

I will have to second this, as far as a programmer goes, unless a system or program was built to be secure, it is my experiance that it will be insecure.

Wrappers are hyped as the end all to everything, and yet look at Windows. MS adds layer after layer of "Security" to windows, and yet it is still insecure.

Trying to add security to a system build for the home and not networking, just gets you an insecure system that works good in the home.

Its no surprise that HTML is insecure due to the fact that you have to access routers belonging to many different ISP's on the way to its destination. As stated "YOU ARE SENDING PLAIN READABLE TEXT OVER A PUBLIC NETWORK."

If the network is owned by comcast, it does not take them much to intercept some if not all of the message and download it into their own database for their own use. Since HTML is insecure and readable text in the first place, yes, they can tag your surfing habits rather easily.

I think the legality is rather easy here, its their routers you use, so why can't they look at what you send through them. If someone uses your car, you tend to ask them where they went, don't you?

    Surprise? I think not!

You have a couple of good points, but you forgot about two things.

    1. The businesses that make millions are less then one in a thousand.

    2. For a company the size of your dads, a VC does not make sense, it is too small for one. You are comparing apples and oranges, because a company in software can grow to making millions in four years, whereas in other fields this takes closer to twenty years.

Sometimes it pays to bring in the VC's, but at other times maybe it is better to manage it yourself. Case in point: Bill Gates..

You reinforce the points that all business majors I know talk about. You have to think about every business decision before you make it. Seems like common sence...

  4. Fault? on ArsDigita Founder Responds to Closing · · Score: 4, Insightful

Another classic example of the group project that falls apart because no one can fall apart.

The company was doomed the minute they brought in the "VC's" because their vision of the company's future was drasically different then the people who started the company.

Just like getting into bed with someone who has different views on sex is a bad idea, so is going into buisness with people who have different views on buisness.

It may work for a little while, but eventually everyone is going to get disillisioned and go do their own thing.

Finally, a mainstream computer both small and fast enough to fit in a car.

I am looking forward to watching movies and listening to the music I want to in the car, and it is removable and can have (Maybe) a cdrom so I can watch even more movies!

It doesn't seem to me that this changes anything. You still need to recharge your laptop with Hydrogen, and it will polute just as much as batteries do today(very little). This seems to have more implications with automobiles and such since we will run out of oil before any other natural resource.

Read the book 1984, in that the state is kept in a perpetual war in order to keep patriotism high. Same thing here.. this is nothing new, and neither is the fact that the Government is spending money on propaganda. I really look forward to seeing these commercials, because I am bored of blowing up Bin ladin in little mindless flash games. Rockets anyone?
