  1. Re:Need all the help they can get. on Ares I Rocket Rumored To Be Too Heavy · · Score: 1
I know that NASA does not do the greatest marketing in the world, but your initial statement With the exception of the Mars rovers, most of NASA's recent history has been riddled with failures, mistakes and oversights is incorrect. Following this is a sampling of recent NASA successes.
  2. Interesting Statistics on Searchable C/C++ DB surpasses 275 million lines · · Score: 5, Interesting

In the software engineering world, people will be interested in all sorts of code metrics such as cyclomatic complexity, operator/operand counts, lines of code per module, and such as well as object oriented metrics for the C++ code (depth of inheritance, for example). If you can marry these sorts of metrics with defect data (bugs) for each of the modules then you have a useful data repository for predicting defects in source code. Keeping around different versions of modules changed is also valuable here. If you can gather information on how long it took to produce the module and how long it took to correct defects in the module you are getting even better. If you make it easy to reuse the C and C++ modules...even better.

  3. And the winner is...the lawyers! on Microsoft CA Settlement Claim Forms Hit Mailboxes · · Score: 1

In WV, we have a settlement underway as well. The maximum amount in vouchers that Microsoft will pay is $18 million with a similar prevision for the poorest of the poor schools. However, the lawyers are authorized for up to $9 million in fees for this case. I suspect that the real winner in all of this is not the consumers at all and not even Microsoft but the law firms.

I agree. Domesticated ferrets are virtually helpless in the wild. They can be excellent pets but be aware. They love to chew things. They need a little more help than a cat to litter train. They can nip you a good one. All in all, I enjoy my ferrets.

Hoorah! Rats are great! Not the garbage eating kind mind you. These rats are more of the laboratory variety. Smart, sociable, and all around fun to have around.
