Interesting...hunting around reveals research into vacuum and microgravity welding is ongoing, an area of great interest. I wonder how you go about containing all of the bits of debris that tend to be a product of welding? The Japanese seem to be trying some sort of electron beam welding but it still talks about vaporized metal as a byproduct. I would hate for a cloud of metal scrap to fly around a hit me on the return orbit.
If something is your personal belonging and you bring it into an area that explicitly forbids that type of device or use the device in a way not allowed then you are liable for the applicable penalties, whether that be erasure, confiscation, destruction, or any other prescribed remedy. Numerous examples could follow but I will spare us all the pain...
You could use DEC Ada on your 20 year old VAX. Believe it or not, we still do.
To answer the bigger question, get together a decent training program on the particulars of your system and hire as follows:
1) junior/fresh-out to "grow your own" expertise 2) well-rounded mid-level folks when the need hits 3) senior personnel with specific expertise in your type of system, when in dire need
Both 1 and 2 greatly benefit from a well structured training program. You do not care what particular system people know, only that they can learn yours at a reasonably rapid pace. The more you head from 1 toward 3, the more you need targeted expertise in your specifics because you are paying those people more and expect more from them.
Hmm...you might be in the right zip code there but do not forget Ephesians 5:18, 1 Peter 4, 1 Thessalonians 5, Galatians 5:19-21, and such. The Bible does not advocate drunkenness and excess.
Where you quote Proverbs, you are seeing the contrast between a person of leadership who restrains themselves from drunkenness and those dying and in anguish who indulge. It also follows up by saying that the one in leadership should speak up for the one who is destitute to help pull them out of that miserable situation.
I am not sure where we find the apostles drunk. I would appreciate if you can clarify. They were celebrating Passover, which does involve wine but I do not find them drunk in the scriptures.
All that said, I am not sure that sales blackout periods or state ownership of alcohol distribution address the core issue.
The definition of 'natural' is: existing or formed independently of humans, reflecting the continued distinction made between humans and everything else (like plants, animals, rocks, and such).
Oh yes, CodeSurfer http://www.grammatech.com/products/codesurfer/overview.html is another option. It costs $945. CodeSurfer has the capability to write fancy macros to do checks on your code...not sure how that compares to Understand's macro capabilities.
Understand for C++ http://www.scitools.com/products/understand/cpp/product.php if you have some money to spend. SCI will give you a 15 day evaluation copy and the cost is $495 (cheaper each if you buy more).
Nobody has been maintaining it for a while but for free you can have Source Navigator http://sourcenav.sourceforge.net/. It is basically a Tcl/Tk based editor that has decent cross-referencing capabilities. It also builds a class hierarchy and lets you search on files, variables, functions, etc.
Print off a copy of the Constitution and the Federal Budget and work with Congress to create a budget the holds taxes as they are, reduces U.S.A. debt, and best conforms to the Constitution. Do a similar exercise with the Constitution and current Federal law, asking Congress to repeal laws that weaken or infringe upon Constitutional rights. Work to repeal laws that are antiquated and simplify those that are overly cumbersome. Begin to accomplish this by reminding each and every person that the prime directive of every public servant is defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America. Personal gain beyond the designated salary has no place in public service. If personal gain is desired, go to the private sector. On that note, work to eliminate lobbyists and cap election spending so that representation of the people rather than large corporations can take place.
The base configuration is hard to compare.
Dell has no name integrated Intel UMA video. Apple has an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB of GDDR3. Big plus for Apple.
Dell has wireless keyboard and mouse. Apple will upgrade to them very easily.
Dell and Apple have equivalent wireless per specifications.
Dell has a TV tuner. Apple will let you add one (external) for $199. Plus for Dell.
Dell has 2GB of RAM, not upgradable at all. Apple has 1GB of RAM but allows an easy upgrade, up to 4GB. Plus for Apple.
Dell has an 8-in-1 media reader and Apple does not. Plus for Dell.
Dell has Adobe Elements included. Apple has iLife included.
Dell has no camera. Apple has an integrated iSight. Plus for Apple.
Dell has Vista. Apple has Leopard. I'll not comment.
So, what about mid-range systems?
Dell XPS 2.33GHz, 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2400 ??MB RAM, 320GB 7200 Hard Drive, 8x DVD+/-RW, 20in wide screen, wireless keyboard/mouse, 802.11n wireless, integrated audio 2.0 speakers, 8-in-1 media reader, hybrid TV tuner
Windows Vista, Adobe Elements, 15 months of Norton Internet Security, Microsoft Office Home 2007
2 years parts and labor
$1,899
Apple iMac 2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256MB RAM, 320GB 7200 Hard Drive, 8x SuperDrive, 20in wide screen, wireless keyboard/mouse, 802.11n wireless, integrated audio 24w speakers, no media reader, external TV tuner, iSight camera
Mac OS X Leopard, iLife, iWork
1 year parts and labor
$1,778
Apple wins in processor speed, video, integrated camera, and price.
Dell wins via the 8-in-1 card reader and 1 year extra warranty.
If you do not need a TV tuner, take $199 off of the Apple price...down to $1,579.
I have to go for the Apple, most would unless there is a compelling reason to have an 8-in-1 card reader or you think the Apple is going to tank in 1 year. If you must have Vista (why?), you can purchase it for the Mac for about the price difference (TV tuner included!)
Orion is designed to be capable of operating in Low Earth Orbit and beyond, specifically to the Moon and Mars as targets. However, Orion (built right) should also be capable of trips to asteroids or to make a James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) repair at a Lagrange Point if need be. If its budget gets mercilessly hacked away over the next few years, then it will be less and less capable. I am not sure that the requested budget has ever been provided to date.
The beauty of open source can be given by example of our various Linux distros...Gentoo for the power hungry, Debian for the open source idealist, Ubuntu for those who want to install and forget the details, Fedora for enterprise applications...
To seriously consider forcing high school freshmen to select a career path, junior high would have to be filled with one hour sessions of different career areas and opportunities to job shadow for a week at one or more places. Still, having core focus areas is probably better: college-prep, trade-prep, basic citizenship and life skills. However, electives should be built in such that any student with the pre-requisites for a course can take the course out of interest. Naturally, there are some very basic math, English, history, and such that are expected of everyone.
I did not see that the study included the probability of the random comet that originated life also impacting the earth. Nor is it obvious that it was considered that if the comet impacted earth that the life thereon survived. I would like to see a bit more before we declare ourselves progeny of a stud of a comet sowing his wild oats, so to speak.
Why don't we should all wear lightly colored clothes since our darker colored clothes trap more heat on the earth, which is contributing to global warming? Save the earth from wardrobe eco-terrorism!
If the iPhone OS handles root in the same manner as MacOS X, then the root user would have to be enabled somehow before anyone could use the account anyway. So, show me how to hack the password and enable the account, then write an article that is more than FUD.
Who said the music on it was actually copyrighted?
Exactly! And even if the music is copyrighted there is no evidence of illegality. Can't I go to my favorite music service, pay for and download songs, burn them to CD and delete them off of my computer? Can't I buy a bunch of CDs rip the songs I want, compile a mix CD, and pitch the originals in the trash? So long as the artists get paid and credited as the originator...what am I missing here?
Romans 13: 8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 2:12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. (NIV)
Even the nonreligious "Gentiles" are accountable to God since all have the requirements of the law written on their hearts. It seems these scientists have found evidence to confirm this.
As to the Christian comment, things are quite the opposite to what you say. No amount of good deeds gain admission to heaven in Christian theology. Rather, good deeds are the byproduct of grace bestowed through Jesus Christ and accepted by the Christian. The Christian is so awed by the great gift received that (s)he wants to (in some small way) do the same for others. The Christian believes that the greatest gift they can give is knowledge of the same salvation that was provided them.
The article is very much mislabeled. What has been done is that everyone on JWST is being made to use Rational Rose, so that there is one set of development tools that work together. Hubble instruments are only made to conform to an interface protocol for communication, so there are a bunch of different compilers and various other tools needed to handle updates. The "open" part is that all of the developers can see one another's models, which happen to be in UML.

I for one welcome our robot co-workers!
Put the human vs. robot in space argument to bed once and for all time. Human and robot abilities are complementary in space just as on earth.
Hmm...a welding torch does not seem so useful in a vacuum.

The parent is on the right track. Something like "my dog eats carrots" is hard to guess and much easier to remember than "mD0eZ$1*".

I suppose a little more background is in order:

Why yes, I am glad you asked. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/science/ index.html will get you to the weekly science overview and the current expedition science overview. You get all this while the place is still under construction. Just think when a crew of six is available with full laboratory environments in the next few years. By the way, http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/structur e/iss_manifest.html gives a summary run down on when to expect new capabilities to be in place.
