Very easy to tax, just require a registration to maintain copyright(there used to be a requirement to register to even GET copyright).
It would provide incentive to return intellectual property to the public domain.
These laws were originally written to promote innovation. Would it increase or decrease the incentive for music companies if old revenue streams(from old copyright) dried up.
It is traditionally thought that when a complementary good goes down in prices, then there will be MORE not less sales. So if the hardware drops in price, then more software will be used.
With easy and cheap bandwidth it is time that we start seeing simultaneous releases of shows. The article is basically saying that people are already taking it into their own hands. If the networks start pushing out the content worldwide at the same time it will reduce this demand.
Could this make them legally liable for the posted content? It would make it harder to claim that they are just a "common carrier" since they change the headers and claim ownership.

Google and VoIP...
According to news reports I read today, Google seems to be playing it cool regarding the recent rumors associated with a possible VoIP play.
A quick check at the Spring 2005 VON delegate database shows that a number of Google executives in fact will be joining us in San Jose in March.
Maybe Google is 'just interested' in VoIP. I suspect there may be something more to this. :-)
