Here we go again with the HIGH-END talk. Wasn't there a different HIGH-END discussion on Slashdot just the other day?

I work for a company that sells tape drives with 200GB native capicity and 30MB/sec native throughput.

Other features include WORM technology required by the government for some types of data, and the data cartridges are compatible with robitic libraries required for backups using 10's of terabytes of data.

I'm sure that other manufactures are selling similar hardware.

I applaud Gateway for this, and I really hope that this helps bring them from the brink of going out of buisness. I plan on supporting them through corporate purchases (which I oversee). I hope supporting companies who endorse (publically) our ideals will win in the long run

I just wanted to speak up as a Gateway laptop user (supplied by my corporate buyer).

I have read the other comments such as ...

They have effectively filled the consumer space crappy OEM PC manufacturer vacated by Packard Bell
    AND...
I don't think there's any danger of Gateway cornering anything. They make overpriced, underwhelming mass-market PCs

I have been using a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop with a 650 MHz Celeron, 128 MB, CD-RW and a 20 GB hard drive for approx a year. Included with the purchase was, of course the standard company software, Windows 2000 Pro and Office 2000 Pro. While this is not the best thing since sliced bread, it has been very useful and dependable. I rate my Gateway laptop above any of the other various laptops I have used in the past six years.

I say more power to Gateway for trying to capitalize on ignorant congressmen with intelligent users.
