due to Rockstar's pre-existing agreement with Sony it's unlikely that it will happen until quite some time after the game's initial release

Well, you may not have to wait too long. The exclusivity deal with Sony ends this year. So you could see an xbox version as early as Jan 1, 2005, just a few months after the ps2 release.

My guess is that it's the later, from what I remember GTA 4 was supposed to be an all-together new game.

Yes, rumors are that the real sequel to GTA3 (e.g. not just an "expansion pack" like vice city/san andreas) will be developed for next-gen consoles (xbox2, ps3). Always remember to take your grain of salt.

You learn enough w/ Slackware, you get pretty recent software in Debian unstable, and the performance optimization seems to be mostly a myth.

Maybe because Gentoo accomplishes both of your first two points? And why not go ahead and throw in optimizations for the arch of the machine... sure it doesn't always help, but if you're compiling from source you might as well.

It has quite a few citations. I doubt Freenet has just a pure "for research" motivation, but other computer scientists believe it has technical merit.

Second, Steam not only makes possible, but forces, whatever patches Valve has decided to make, on the users. you simply don't have the option of saying "gee, y'know, it runs fine right now, and I don't want the new uberfun zone, so I'll skip this update". Nope. They release a patch, you get it next time you connect. Actually, I don't see this as a bad thing (unless of course it's Tribes2, then no amount of patching will help... someone set us up the assertion failure). Blizzard has done quite well with Battle.net and required updates (note Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo) and I'm sure tons of other developers do this as well. But I agree that the requirement to connect to Steam to play single/multiplayer LAN is total BS.

You're right... at some point, more space doesn't matter... however, longer battery life, more features like the above will be bigger selling points for some. IMHO, I think the features and battery life of this unit outweigh the "elegance" of the ipod.

But lots of exim's features (and ease of configuration) may tip the scales for some people over postfix, courier or sendmail.

For example, exim has the ability to block mail by referencing the DNSBL (DNS block lists) or the RBL (realtime block lists) for hosts known for spam relays. See exim's rbl howto.

Postfix is good, but it comes down to what the sysadmin believes is a good tradeoff between features and security.

Not to say MacOS X is indestructible or anything, but it's a big reliability leap for most Windows users.

I've owned a Mac with OS X. My XP box has been more stable than my PM G4 that ran OS X 10.2.6.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this. I switched... then switched back. Now I run what I've been running for a long time, Linux (debian/gentoo flavors) and windows.

.. I also believe people will have less of an argument not to buy a Mac.

They had an argument to begin with? I switched because I wanted the mix of *nix with a nice UI. Let me be brief: it isn't worth the money. Spend a few hundred on a cheap box, put Linux on it with your favorite desktop manager. Use the extra 2 grand to make a nice comfy seat cushion.
