  1. OnlineGrades can Display Student Grades to the Web on Ask Slashdot: Open Source Software To Manage Student Grades? · · Score: 1

While it is *not* an online grade book and will *not* print report cards (though that could easily be added), if you just want to display student grades online for students/parents to review then you should consider OnlineGrades at http://www.onlinegrades.org/ . It is PHP + MySQL and the price is right. It takes exports from several standard grade book software programs.

  2. Videos Showing US Customs Predator B UAV on Behind the Scenes With America's Drone Pilots · · Score: 1

Here are two videos showing a US Customs Predator B UAV landing at the big Air Show in Oshkosh Wisconsin this past summer. The first video shows the aircraft landing and close-up. The second video shows the inside of the portable control trailer and the view from the UAV cameras during the approach and landing. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid626910413?bclid=9230910001&bctid=30185778001 http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid626910413?bclid=9230910001&bctid=30711327001 Enjoy!

  3. ChilliSpot or NoCat with NoCatSplash on Rental Home Wireless Networks? · · Score: 3, Informative

Take a look at ChilliSpot, which is an open source captive portal --http://www.chillispot.org/ .

Another option (already mentioned) that would work with the is to run NoCat
http://nocat.net/ on a "server" along with NoCatSplash on the WRT54 (see http://nocat.net/~rob/wrt54g/ ).

Take a look at http://www.slcwireless.com/ to see how they are providing free wireless to location in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    Good luck!

  4. Maybe a product from Prentke Romich ? on PDAs for a Disabled Man? · · Score: 2, Informative
While not necessarily on the cheap (~$7,995.00 for their top of the line model) one of the "Augmentative Communication Products" from Prentke Romich might be a good fit. My brother has cerebral palsy (but impact to his intellect) and used one of their light talker products (now out of production) when he was in elementary school. He interacted with that unit via a single toggle switch. His is in his 20s now and no longer has any communication device that he can control.

Their web site is http://www.prentrom.com/ and they claim to be able to help with funding.

  5. You can call 1-800 numbers, some regular phones+ on Michael Robertson Unveils SIPphone · · Score: 2, Informative
"...can only call other phones that use the same technology."

Yes and no. The phone can only call other SIP devices, but there is no reason that the SIP device cannot be a gateway to the PSTN. Mr. Roberton's service includes the ability to call other sip directory networks, including Free World Dial-up.

Free World Dial-up already has the ability for USA and UK PSTN phones to call a FWD phone number (see the "3rd Party Inbound" section at http://fwd.pulver.com/index.php?section_id=78 ). In addition, the same page explains how to call USA nationwide, UK, and Neatherlands Toll Free numbers from your FWD SIP phone. Since SIPphone can call FWD, they are able to do the same.

So, maybe this is not so useless afterall... ;-)

  6. Check out DotLRN on Software for Online Courses? · · Score: 1

Maybe you should take a hard look at opensource project DotLRN, which is being used by MIT's Sloan School of business (http://sloanspace.mit.edu/ Login name: testguest@mit.edu. Password: test). It is also being used by the Berklee school of music and being looked at by University of Heidelberg, in Germany for 2003.
The backgound for the software is the OpenACS project, at http://openacs.org, and is TCL+AOLServer+Postgresql or Oracle. More info on DotLRN is at http://dotlrn.mit.edu or ask around in the dotLRN Development forums ( http://openacs.org/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic_id=15& topic=dotLRN%20Development ).
