  1. Re:Here's what I'd like to know on House Overturns FCC Media Consolidation Plan · · Score: 1

Check out the July 21. They say that the House measure is only to overturn the 45% rule. The decision to allow crossownership of TV, print, and radio was not overturned by this measure.

I guess I'll have to keep writing those letters to my representatives.

  2. Re:Whining about Christmas bonuses is pretty sorry on Company Christmas Gifts / Bonuses? · · Score: 1
Ok, so a bonus is a special reward. Something you get when your company wants to show their appreciation for the excellent work you have done.
Explain how John W. Snow, CEO of CSX, can get the money he made off his bonuses considered as "salary" when calculating his pension plan returns. This implies he was "entitled" to bonuses.

Shares in his company have fallen 53 percent from their 1997 high; under-performing compared to other stocks in his industry. This doesn't sound like he did an excellent job to me. Check out this NY Times article for more details.

Personally, I feel like I am entitled to a bonus at my company. When the CEO is able to get a bonus this year, why can't I?. If our company is doing crappy, then everyone should suck it up and go without bonuses.

They are going to use Scientific Atlanta's hardware to do DVR. If you can hack into a SA box and figure out anything, I would be amazed. Everything in that box is propritary, including the OS and video encryption.

In addition, since the cable company owns the boxes, they can hold you responsible for damages. Don't be surprised if they charge you $700 or more for tampering with their box.

  4. Time Warner is not going to use Tivos on AOL-Time/Warner's PVR to Skip Ad-Skipping · · Score: 2, Informative

Scientific Atlanta will be providing the DVR box. It will be able to record both analog and digital channels. It will not use Tivo software. It has dual tuners so you can record one show while watching another. For more info, see this press release.
